Queue Times? 4 HOURS?!

Can someone explain to me the reasoning behind why I queued at 12 in the afternoon for a Battleground Blitz game. (below 2300cr, last game was 3200mmr). It is now past 4:30pm and I am still in queue? Not one queue pop.

I could work a half day, come back to my pc, and still have been in queue. I could have watched the entire Avatar movie, and not been worried about missing queue

Sometimes the queue system breaks, usually if the queue goes double the expected time I reset it. I don’t know if that’s the problem you’re having or if Thursday afternoon queues are just super dead though, either way, I hope games start happening for you soon.

The cursed live action Avatar: the Last Airbender movie, or the one with the blue(?) aliens?

Oops, I totally missed this. That probably explains it D: Sorry fam.

The blue aliens. I could be half way through the second movie if I started watching them when I first queued

At the moment games at this rating only occur late at night unfortunately, and even then only usually when a streamer is actively playing. I wonder if maybe blizzard should change the matchmaking to copy league of legends, where shorter queue times are prioritized over getting all players within a narrow mmr.

It’s crazy to think, that over the course of 5 hours now. That 4 healers, and 11 other dps with in a mmr range are not online to queue. That 15 other players are not available to queue. You know what I mean?

Yup. At higher rating the mode is literally unplayable for the majority of the day. Even 3200 is still pretty far below the peak ratings on the ladder, but you’re not going to get a game outside of specific hours.

It’s best to wait until 11:00 PM EST. A lot of high rating players are from west coast, Oceania, Asia, and Europe. Midnight eastern time is probably the sweet spot where players from all over the world can queue at the same time.

Season 1 blitz was too good we had something amazing and we didnt even know!

Because most of the sweats and try hard streamers que after either irl work or que when they know the rest of the community is queing at that high of cr which is usually from 11 pm est to about 7 am est for me at least.

You can sure as hell sit in a que for hours on end though if you want to gamble your CR/MMR away. Taking a hit that low might put you back down into 2100 lobbies and the climb back up is agony.

At 3200 you will have to que at 11pm EST possibly even PST midnight. It could be seen as gatekeeping because players could que earlier but only want to que at midnight. Until more players get better there won’t be any other times to que. By that time, the season is already over.

Yesterday afternoon I sat in queue for 2 hours and 16 minutes without a single pop, so I just gave up and played some randoms and epic BGs instead. TBH randoms are actually of a lot of fun. I ended up going to bed early and waking up early today, right now (4:40 AM EST) the queue wait time is about 10 minutes, so I finally got to play some blitz games.

I would love to know why it’s converged at such a late time when everyone could just make a collective decision to not do this to themselves lol.

I often wake up at 3-4 AM, luckily I will never be in danger of getting into such a high CR queue lol, but it’s scary to think about.

Incentive.

I’ve seen some 3k players even que up at noon. The majority don’t want to do it for a few reasons.

-Gatekeeping being one
-Queing at midnight or 3am means the avg player is more committed to actually playing the game and playing to win
-Less distractions
-The MMR system.. if not enough high ranked players que up at the same time, you lose 30+ CR per loss compared to like 7 or 13 with everyone being on and above your CR/MMR.
-Thinking that everyone around the world can play best at Midnight to 4am is just some North America realm shenanigans. There aren’t enough Asia or EU players playing on NA servers to justify this is just a good time to play for the whole world.

Which brings me to another point,

Carries,
There are alot of organic 1600/1800/2100/2300 players playing at 3000k MMR and earning high warlord for the first time on their entire account.

Either this or they are alts of high rated players or RMT/Boosting, that is also involved. However I see alot of people at high CR are actually getting carried and couldn’t 1v1 or 2v2 to save their life.

This is an amazing post, thank you for taking the time to explain all of this to me. I’d never considered the combination of gatekeeping and loss-prevention.

A lot of people like playing late when there is nothing else going on and no distractions.

And the majority of people up over 3k are not normal casuals who have other things going on in life.

The dynamics in EU seem to be different, so it’s not inherent.
