I actually donāt have a big issue with 5 man premades in BGs, especially EBGs. Itās the queue syncing. People CAN overcome a 5 man premade especially in EBGs for the most part. The 5 man limit was put in for a reason. They tried allowing full premades in SoD, and quickly killed it off because of how awful it was for everyone else.
specifically it was seen as 50% of a 10 man bg back when all the bgs were in the same pool. the equivalent today would be allowing 20 man groups to queue for epics.
fun fact, 20 is probably the average sync group size.
but it wasnāt in its own pool yet, and wouldnāt be for like 10 years.
you have to remember that the āpremade problemā they were trying to solve back then was mainly in WSG where a premade would cap 2/3 flags and then just GY farm the other team for hours not capping the last flag. you could afk and queue up back into the same ongoing GY farm. of course part of that was the HK titles encouraged GY farming, but overall AV got hit unintentionally when it has always been more of a big team map.
because it was all new back then, these days if you want 100k hks we know you just log in and play daily and it will come to you eventually. but back then 100k seemed like a huge number that needed an intentional grind.
Blizzard wanted people to be able to play with friends, but they didnāt want premades to dominate pugs with overwhelming coordination. The larger the premade, the larger the premadeās advantage.
Pugs have a more reasonable time dealing with 5 coordinated players. Against 20 coordinated players? Not so much.
sure it was, first you have to remember how software development works, you have game designers making the actual mechanical decisions and then coders given stories to make it happen. the coder given the story to make it happen will be the one doing the work on error speech, not the game designer who would make the call on things like group size, he was too busy trying to quell all the QQ about removing the blacklist.
What job do know of that allows you to just do whatever you want, because youāre more worried about something else, without that coming back to bite you?
Saying āoh well he was probably just did this for a quick fix and was worried about blacklistsā is silly at best and intentionally disingenuous at worst, Iām not sure iād even believe that you believe that sentence.
Weird that none of them have removed the quick fix and just let you guys 40 man queue
thats how it went though, they wanted to add seething shore and not have it immediately blacklisted by everyone, so they needed to remove the blacklist. and in order to get away with that they needed to remove the most blacklisted bgs: the 40 mans. the problem is those maps had their own fans who blacklisted other maps like ToK and TP. so they split the 40 mans off to their own bracket so people wouldnāt complain about being forced into 40 man pvp.
Iām glad you were in the room with them to give us such insight.
and at this point coded a hard limit, and actively punish people for doing anything besides clicking the queue button at the same time. If you use any sort of 3rd party program to sync your queues thats a bannable offense. The only reason they dont ban people for queue syncing is because its pretty unenforceable to punish people for clicking the button at the same time.
Iāve got no skin in the game, I dont like epics anyways, and only ever did them because my friends did, those friends are gone, so i dont do them. I just donāt think the argument about this is being had veryā¦ honestly
