A couple of questions I have regarding the next step in Classic WoW.
When you log into your main server (or any server with a character on it already) you’ll go through the process of selecting a server type to continue the life of that character - TBC or Classic Era, right?
What happens if you want to make a new character on a server that you have no characters on? Do you create the level one, then go through the “snapshot” continuation process?
Will there be a window of opportunity to change the server location if you chose the wrong one? I think this may be difficult as it could lend itself to exploitation.
Will there be check points to blatantly affirm the choice you are making. When you delete a rare item, for example, you have to type out DELETE. Something similar happens in Shadowlands when you choose the leveling path for an alt.
Is there any rollback on the character snapshot or is it the day of pre-patch?
I would think, once the pre-patch drops, any new characters will only be on the progression server. What I believe is that the snapshot will only apply to characters that exist when the servers are taken down to apply the pre-patch. It is also my belief that they will one-to-one or many-to-one map the progression servers to the era servers so that, if you choose to remain classic, your toon will automatically be transferred to that era server’s database.
The snapshot like the name suggests should only apply to existing characters.
The confirmation thing we can look at the datamined transition strings. BURNING_CRUSADE_TRANSITION_CHOICE_CONFIRM_TYPE Type in the character's name to confirm:
Suggests there will be a confirmation window, so likely no take-backs.
Good luck characters with superscript letters. BURNING_CRUSADE_TRANSITION_CHOICE_BURNINGCRUSADE_DESCRIPTION Exit this game and select Burning Crusade from the Battle.net App.
Suggests Burning Crusade is a different application, like you can select World of Warcraft and World of Warcraft Classic in the battle.net app.
Any characters created after that point will probably make the choice before creation.
