Questions about returning to vanilla and beyond...!

Hey guys been taking a long break and looking at starting up again with a friend.

We have a few questions though.

  1. Is it worth it to start Classic SC with HC servers coming out? And if so which ones do you reccomend? I dont know how accurate a lot of the demographic websites are for A:H ratio so id rather trust some ppl from the community.

  2. Besides HC realms, has there been any talk of a new SoM:2 realm thats SC?

  3. Would you reccomend playing classic as can be Vanilla and not worry about SoM? (I remember the last few SoM realms dying out of population drought and TBC releasing)

If you guys have any more info to add i’d love to hear and read it!

Can always try a regular era server, they are really poppin. When hc comes out you decide whether you want to journey there or just continue on era. Can always do both since you can xfer over your hc toon that die to a regular era server for free.

ohh thats very inviting that you can do that after a death if it happens - so its not a total loss, a huge journey I guess!

I dont see any news for SOM2 though so I guess regular vanilla is where it would be at still.

  1. Absolutely do NOT start referring to the real versions of the game as SC.
  2. I wouldn’t worry about SoM2. If Blizzard had any sense they wouldn’t bother with it.
  3. Just have fun in Era for now. There’s something for everyone and when they reset honor there will be even more to do.

sc sc sc sc sc sc sc mmmmm softcore :joy:

softcore just means you can die and continue playing, HC you cannot (normally) it has nothing to do with the versions that ppl refer to this game as.

Chill dog.

You make me giggle with the SC trigger.

No one requires an explanation. And don’t tell me to ‘chill’. It’s not called SC. Do not refer the better version of the game as SC. Hardcore will die off as does any other niche form of game play.

You are rather aggressive in a post that doesn’t belong to you. It is now my lifes goal to refer to is as SC wherever I go and whenever I talk about it.

Chill dog.

If you dont like it, stop responding. If you haven’t noticed the trend the chill will continue. :joy:

The Era servers are clustered so for example all of the East Coast PVP servers behave as if there’ were one server in game. I play on the “Whitemane cluster” and it feels like it is close to 50/50. PVE servers work the same way and their most popular cluster is called “Mankirk”

If you think you will enjoy Hatdcore that is coming soon™.

SoM or whatever Blizzard chooses to do next with that hasn’t been announced.

Its not SC though. Its just the standard version of the game thats stood the test of time for almost 20 years. HC is a cool idea but you’re fooling yourself if you don’t think it will be just one of many altered versions of the game.

If you’re already subbed, what have you got to lose. Whitemane cluster and Mankrik cluster have the higher populations. Just depends on whether you want PvP or PvE.
More on clusters here,

It’s said there’ll be an announcement later in the year. Grab your grain of salt.

Just play on Era. Whitemane Cluster PVP. Mankirk cluster PVE.

There’s been zero news about a SoM2. Hardcore will fall off when people start getting bored/frustrated. It’s pretty niche as is. Era servers have more “lasting power” so the time you and your friend put in won’t go to waste. There’s a lot of people leveling currently.

Whitemane PVP cluster is at high pop while Mankirk PVE is at medium pop. Depends on what style you’d rather go as Ive not had any issues finding groups on the PVE cluster.

Normal servers aren’t “softcore”. It’s how the game is intended to be played.

The people who play HC are extremely devoted to it. I dont see it dying off unless theres a flood of high end griefing.

Even Mankrik is experiencing layering.
If PVP isn’t your jam, Mankrik cluster is hopping as well.

Also in general not directed at anyone specifically, let’s be positive about our chosen playstyle/ruleset without trying to dunk on others. It may seem dead end to you but here’s Era out here chugging away while so many declared it dead and over.

I’ll be happy to throw in a wager here, I predict it will die as quick as the other fads. Nothing bad about it of course, happy they’re having fun, but I predict it’ll last roughly as long as vanilla did for them the first time around, and the second time around. And as long as fresh does. And as long as whatever new hotness comes next. Remember no one was clamoring for these mechanics for decades as we did for vanilla.

It isn’t so much the mechanics that draw them, but the crowd.
