Hello, I was wondering if anyone could provide me insight into my situation.
Recently i was banned on my super old wow account and am slowly coming to accept it but am still perplexed as to what caused it.
So my main is a warrior and i have a mage alt that i use only to farm zf to fund my warrior. recently i have been farming more than usual because i have more free time due to a job change. i decided i wanted titanic leggings and found myself in a situation where i spent a couple days at probably 10+ hours each farming zf, trying to get the required gold before next raid.
so i was up late, spamming zf, finished up and put a bunch of stuff on the ah and went to bed. i was at about 1500g at the time. woke up the next day and logged in, and got the message that my account was permanently closed etc. email said the reason for ban was abuse of economy and that my account was involved directly or indirectly with RMT.
so my question is basically, what would i have done to trigger a permaban for economy abuse? I know i could have been reported by a bunch of ppl for being a guidless mage in zf, but wouldnt that result in suspension? Ive never even been banned or suspended before so theres not history of this activity.
I totally understand if people dont trust my story, but thats what happened.
Id like to better understand what happened so i dont make a similar mistake in the future, because frankly im not really satisfied with the explanation of “being indirectly involved with RMT.”
I will refrain from farming like a degenerate in the future, which is clearly the root of the issue. it is definitely not worth the trouble.
Just to get to the meat of the issue; no, what you did the day before isn’t what got you action. They take weeks, if not months beforehand before they apply account actions. What folks think here isn’t a factor.
You can apply until they tell you to stop:

thanks for replying. if my behaviour over the course of months is what caused the perma ban, wouldnt they just give me a less harsh punishment at the first offence? i get what youre saying but it doesnt make alot of sense to me. especially because i know that all i did was farm zf perhaps a bit more than the average person.
Also i have appealed, and it was upheld, appealed again in slightly more detail and it was also upheld and now i no longer have the option to appeal. i didnt think i needed much detail to defend myself cause i genuinely have done nothing.
appreciate your insight though
What did the emailnsay when u were banned
Not a court, no defending yourself.
A appeal just reviews the data to see if there was a mistake.

This isn’t your family home where family could overlook something or tone down a punishement. They don’t barggen with any type of account action.
And to touch on this, about four or five months ago, there was a buff/event in game where mount drops change was increased along with armor/weapon pieces. That’d have been a time with a lot of folks been doing such actions outside of their nom.

Account Action: Account Closure
Offense: Exploitative Activity: Abuse of the Economy
This account was closed because it was involved, either directly or indirectly, with the unauthorized exchange of in-game property for “real-world” currency. This exchange detracts from the integrity of the World of Warcraft game environment.
The account holder is responsible for all activity on the account. We issue suspensions and closures to protect our players and our service in accordance with our Blizzard EULA
We don’t take this decision lightly. Our team issued this closure only after a careful review of relevant evidence. Our support staff will not overturn these closures and may not respond to appeals. For information, see our article
In some cases, these actions happen when a third party compromises an account to sell gold or other in-game property. If you believe your account was compromised, please follow these important instructions:
Did you ever do any GDKP runs? Or sell anything for gold purchased from you with gold via trade window? Possible you got stolen gold from someone with out knowing and this can happen.

Im not trying to bargain with the account action im wondering how my decisions and actions led to me being confused for someone who participates in rmt.
im assuming that you are talking about an event in retail wow? i havent played retail in a while so im not quite sure what youre referencing there
Does not have to have happened in retail wow. Might not be recent and they will not give you more details. But with the ban type at some point you got stolen gold!
They will not give more info because that would help those trying to sell stolen gold figure out how they are getting found out. Again might not be recent but recent enough that they had logs to trace things down.
Follow the money but in this case the gold and each person that had some stolen gold can get in trouble. Only safe place to sell legit items is on the AH.

ive never done gdkp runs even when they were allowed. and quite frankly i play solo alot and dont really talk to people outside my guild. if its in the past few months its possible i traded with someone but nothing actually comes to mind. i even buy my items like lionheart helm straight from the auction house and dont haggle. its really confusing me
Afraid no one here can give you more info. Wish you the best of luck! Even if one of the FSA do reply they will not give more details.

sorry i was having trouble with the reply function lol
yeah i think youre right about the stolen gold i just assume that something like that could be overturned easily but have been assured by blizzard that its been looked into.
thanks for your reply appreciate it alot
They are really going after people who buy gold! Make it harder and harder for players who do to do anything with the gold.

Soon someone will come in and tell you that it probably happened during a mundane trade, and someone paid you with gold they got through illicit means, and somehow you should have known better.
Somehow someone else buying gold is your fault.
In addition to that they are going to tell you that the safest way to do transactions is through the AH.
Its pretty sad that you have to consider if someone bought gold instead of just trading and doing commerce the way its been in the game since 2004, but here we are.
Good luck with your appeal. Hope it works out for you.
Not every trade is dirty theres alot of honest players and a few dishonest on the birte side is they will get into as much trouble for buying gold as well including full bnet closer.

Spot on Darth! However based on the advice we’ve seen the blues dole out on this forum. You essentially need to treat every transfer of gold from someone as if they obtained it through illicit means. It’s a real bummer to deal with
Also if ur trading big ammount dont trade with a lvl 1 toon.

Thats for sure a good thing to look out for. Solid advice!
Ive seen orlyia say u gota ask your self why are u trading with a lvl 1 toon in the first place for something that alone should be a red flag.
