I thought people were not allowed to charge for addons and if thats the case why is rested xp allowed and the likes?
Not understanding this part.
They aren’t allowed.
I have no idea what rested XP has to do with it.
After a quick search on Curseforge -RestedXP is a family of add-ons that promote “guides” that are for sale on their website.
OP - They shouldn’t be. They need to be reported to hacks@blizzard.com for them to go do what they need to do. You won’t get a response and it’s not something that will happen instantaneously, but it will be looked into and likely broken or removed.
There are those addons and “zygors” who have been around for ages, I don’t think the legal hammer will land on them for some reason…
Ok, I guess I was totally confused on the question. You know “Rested XP”. My bad.
Don’t worry, I was confused too. But then I went digging and found out what OP was trying to bring attention to.
So zygors and rested xp do run afoul of the policy, should i include links to the hacks email or just write them letting them know
There has never been any official word o whether they do or not. In the case of Zygor, the add-on is free to download and use in-game. The “premium” is a detailed guide to level or make gold at maximum efficiency.
Obviously we can agree it’s quite the grey area, but Zygor continues to operate so I would take that as an implicit “approval” of what they do, but it’s also possible they operate in a place where Blizzard won’t be able to bring legal action.
In the end, Blizzard doesn’t comment on add-ons. You can absolutely send information about both to the Hacks e-mail, and they can investigate.
I believe you can get the addon for free but if you want the guide to use with it that you pay for
Always give as much information as possible just dont embellish.
Which according to this, is a no no
It won’t unless people report the offenders. Say nothing and nothing gets done
Add on is free of charge but they do not have to include to guide for free! This is how they have been able to keep this addon in for years now.
Blizzard does allow it.
Check out Zygor Guides.
Been using that addon for years.
They do offer a free version ( to level 20), however.
Sounds like the other version may be
But hey… My reading comprehension is a bit low.
Well zygor guides been doing this for years. Not a premium version. But they will just give away the guide
The way they get around this is that they act like the Kindle app on the App Store. They give you the full app for free, but then sell you the books to read.
I fully understand what you are saying. But those guides suspiciously sound like additional pay for features to me.
