Question on EU accounts and being in NA

So a military friend of mine is headed to Europe (Germany) in like 4 months.

1st question: Can he make an EU account while in NA knowing he will be there soon?

2nd question: If he waits and makes an EU account there, since he will be there for 18 months, when he gets back to the US, will he have really bad lag logging into the EU accounts from NA? He has like 800 mb/s dload fiber speed from his Military base in Orlando Florida.

Any info?

Yep! You can have EU and NA accounts under the same battle.net even. There’s just nothing that’s really shared between those two accounts with very few exceptions.

Their EU account would need to have its own game time and if your friend wants to access Dragon Flight content, they will need to purchase the EU version to add to their account.

They can go to the link below to make a starter account and they can select the EU option there too:

Your friend would be better off asking someone who also plays from that particular base to see what their experience is. It’s going to vary from location to location, but there are certainly people who do this. That said, they do often mention that they have to get used to the lag/delay when playing.

Yes. You can have both NA and EU accounts at the same time. There is no sharing between the accounts, so anything earned on an NA account also has to be earned in an EU account. There are between 6 and 12 mounts that are battlenet licenses instead of just for one zone. Things like the Hearthstone mount and Drops from Twitch and Prime Gaming. The same with battle pets and toys.

Game tokens have restrictions. If you play and EU account from NA you can only buy game tokens from the AH and can only use them for game time, not Battlenet Balance.

I’m in Nova Scotia, not Florida, so I’m not sure what path the connection from Florida to EU is like, but here I get slightly more lag/ping time than I get playing realms on the West Coast. That time is around half the lag/ping time to the Australian realms. Most of the time the lag doesn’t interfere a lot with playing. The only issues I can see is if your friend does competitive PvP or high-key mythics.

If your friend already has an NA account, it can be played from Germany. Again, lag issues would really only be an issue if they does competitive PvP or high-key mythics.

I can’t tell you what raiding is like as I don’t raid on my EU account.
