Given the state of the economy and the cost of basic items going through the roof, how much of an impact is that having on subscription numbers in your opinion?
WoW is probably the cheapest entertainment cost/time value in terms of my entertainment options.
In terms for me, it’s the cheapest alongside XIV. Expacs are standalone basically, and if you’re good at money making you can practically play for free.
Still nothing cheaper on a $/hr basis that I can sink this much time into.
I think it’s fine. It’s just the paid extras that kinda suck. Either be free to play with a cash shop or include everything with the sub. In between gets yucky.
Absolutely zero. Negative in fact. When I spend money for things in Wow, a meager amount of stupid transmogs or mounts – well I’m not spending it on track pads, racing tires, and events that cost way, way more. It even wastes my spare time, preventing me from drinking, going out to dinner, and other things. It’s just super, super, super, super, super cheap.
Well, I guess Uber Eats and Doordash goes up.
Finally, it’s basically exactly the same price as most streaming services. Fortunately for me, that’s low.
I use my baby’s milk money to pay for the mt dew i need to continue playing at the collegiate professional level. Im good
entertainment value per hour to the cost it’s much much cheaper. I can have a 3 hr key night w/ the boys and cost us $15/month + consumables (around 2k-5k gold). Still significantly cheaper than if I decide to go out w/ the misus to the movies. Tickets + food will easily net me $100 for 2-3 hours of entertainment
“Too expensive” is highly subjective. Even with bidenflation, the MMO’s i play haven’t increased their sub price, and i’m gainfully employed with a job that has decent pay.
So on my end, not too expensive in terms of the actual price, but then again i’ma also be on hiatus after my 1 month return here once my sub expires, not cuz the price, but cuz the expansion leaves much to be desired. i’ll more than likely return in the near future though.
My FFXIV sub is still active, and got PS+ and Nintendo’s equivalent to PS+ active and those bring a ton more value for me than WoW currently does.
It costs me less than one breakfast per month.
With tax, and some tokens and shop items, I spend about 280 dollars for a year on WoW.
Personally, I never mind spending less but it’s not a bad price for me, especially considering how much entertainment and fun it brings me.
50c a day aint much dont know about you
Honestly when I do play wow it saves me money. I’d probably buy at least a game a month if I didn’t play wow. So $15 vs $30-60…yea it’s the cheaper option.
Subscription costs arent much
But the amount of money a new player would have to spend on wow tokens to get boosted to be considered for an invite to anything is out of reach for most.
As a casual, no.
But as a endgame player, yes. You will have to either shell out money for tokens, or spend a lot of time farming gold for consumables, best crafting gear you can get as well as the best enchants, which are so expensive that most players are getting the crappier enchants.
If you play on the cutting edge, it’s very expensive and likely a greater money/time investment than any other game, imo. Ignoring the monthly fee and initial cost, of course.
Anyone remember how much the World First raiders spent for their raids in Shadowlands? It’s always something crazy.
it’s alright i find it overpriced when there is content drought though. lots to do in the game when that happens yes but not everyone is into doing older content/etc… i personally hate leveling alts
With how monetised it is and the unnevessary sub price increases. Hell yes it is.
Yes. It has an archaic sub fee, expansion box costs, AND a mobile gaming cash shop with RMT-esque gold tokens.
There are a lot of good games out there with just pieces of that business model. WoW covers it all.
Its insanely expensive compared to all the stuff out there and its a miracle its still as popular as it is.

This is not even true. Copium dealers spread this myth because time is also money and wow sucks up so much time that it’s not worth it for what you get. add having to buy tokens versus farming gold yourself the cost goes up not down. Time vs fun = wow loses.
