I couldn’t find a straightforward answer to this, so I hope someone can help me out. If I untrained a profession such as blacksmithing, and decide I want to retrain it; is there a way to relearn all the recipes I had? Or do I have to farm up all the recipes again?
I believe you would have to farm the recipes again. Unless something has changed in the last few xpacs, I don’t know of any system that remembers your profession recipes at all. Sorry:(
OK, thanks for your answer.
It seems you can do it with mining, skinning, and herbing though, which I just found out through a google search. I’m not sure where to get them from though.
Found on this page:
There are recipe books in Legion (all professions) and BfA (for some professions) that allow you to relearn recipes that you learned via non-repeatable quests in those expansions. For all other expansions you will have to farm the recipes again. If you have completed any non-repeatable quests that award recipes, you can’t get them back as far as I can tell.
I had an engineer that I switched to alchemy. When I switched back to engineering, I could not get the quest for the Zapthrottle Mote Extractor.
I’ll take a look at this, thanks for your input
I would not recommend unlearning a profession unless you are certain that you are never going back to it.
I believe, people unlearned / relearned gathering professions in Legion and the books, I believe, helped with that. I believe people could get their ranks back in Legion with the books. I’m not certain as I’ve never done this.
Again, the books in Legion and BfA only re-learn the recipes / patterns that you previously learned by non-repeatable questing in Legion and/or in BfA and could not learn again. They do not re-learn any Vanilla / BC / WotLK / Cata / MoP or WoD recipes / patterns and do not learn any in Legion or BfA unless they were acquired via non-repeatable questing.
With the splintering of Profession Skill by expac in the BfA pre-patch - you wouldn’t ever want to do this with even gathering skills if you were ever going back to farm those old expansion materials.
I hope you are not a JC and have learned all the recipes from previous exps cause you are going to be darn sorry if one day u decide to go back to JC , in some case it is better to lvl up a new toon now with allied classes or with a dk it would level faster
I remember someone posting that they did this earlier in bfa, dropped a profession but then relearned it again.
It went very badly for them. They lost nearly all of their recipes and all of their skill progress. They did the legion and bfa book thing and got back a fraction of what they had. A lot of recipe ranks, especially in Legion, only came from drops. And the books only gave him skill level 1 in bfs and legion crafting and didn’t return any skill progress from any other xpac category.
