Hi, due to the changes to advertising boosting in PvP/PvE content, i wanted to check and see if I could still use my Total RP 3 Profile that advertises PvP Boost for Gold. I do not want to get banned! It says that services like these can only be advertised in the services channel, although I see others advertising PvP/PvE Services! Its better to be safe then sorry, thanks!
Ehh, this is a tricky one. People can be reported for TRP content that goes against the CoC/ToS, and they have been sanctioned for it. Granted the ones that I personally have seen come through here to date (as in folks contesting the sanction or not understanding where it came from) have been due to more explicit types of profiles, but there isnât anything blocking someone from advertising boosts/carries in them any more than the aforementioned explicit content and there certainly isnât anything stopping anyone from reporting it either.
To be honest I actually havenât seen a sales TRP as yet (though I thought Iâve seen the gamut in my years on Moon Guard), but honestly? I would err on the side of caution. Most of the time if you have to ask where the line in the sand is drawn, the best policy is to steer clear of it. Keep to the Trade Services channel and avoid any mention of third-party sites/services (Twitch, Discord, etc).
Perhaps one of our SFAs will chime in once they get in for the day, but thank you for asking this. It makes perfectly good sense, and while I think itâs nice to have it all laid out for someone who is interested in the services who may be shy of inquiring or some such - the grey area makes me cautious.
Advertising outside the approved channels will get you into trouble.
I see people speed on the freeways all the time, doesnât mean itâs okay.
Iâm a big fan of not reading anything extra into a statement, especially in regards to rules and laws. I like to read such things literally, at face value.
The policy says
Individuals and guilds selling boost or assistance in raiding, dungeon, or PvP activities for gold is allowed but can only be advertised in-game through the Trade Services chat channel.
Taken literally, you can only advertise your boost service in the Trade Services channel. It doesnât say âthe only chat channel you may advertise in is X, but you can also advertise in your TRP profile or your guild MotDâ.
You canât go wrong following the rules as they are written. Clever people looking for loopholes are the ones that usually get sanctioned.
You also need to advertise on a toon that will be involved with the boosting, so no using level 1 toons.
Bump! Still looking for Blizzard clarification!
Just as a by the by - Customer Support is a forum for players to assist other players. Itâs not a contact point for Blizzard staff. While we do have our SFAs who chime in when and where they can, itâs not a guarantee, so you may not get clarification. And too, you will never get a full on guarantee of this thing or that. They can offer guidance, but they will never say âyes, this is allowed and you will not get sanctionedâ or the reverse.
The rules around TRP3 use tend to be hazy at best. They tend to rely on player reports to be the rule of thumb that they use for someone getting penalized.
Me, personally? If someoneâs TRP3 was a billboard for their boosting services, Iâd probably get annoyed enough to report it. The very last thing Iâd want to see is for it to get to be a trend of a bunch of spammers, boosters and advertisers walking around in RP areas, jumping up and down in front of people on throwaway level 1 characters trying to get them to read their ad, not knowing if the profile youâre clicking on to browse is actually just a sneaky advertisement. It has the potential to completely ruin TRP3 use if it gets to be widespread.
Additionally, youâll find that not many people have TRP3 installed at all outside of the people who play on RP servers, so you wouldnât really be getting your message out to anyone except Moon Guard and Wyrmrest Accord people, who are more easily annoyed at perceived misuse of TRP3 profiles than most. Reporting a TRP3 profile is a pain, itâs not a simple right-click, it takes some real footwork, so Iâm pretty live-and-let-live. But even Iâve reported people using their TRP to advertise in-game casinos, their Onlyfans and other services in the hopes that theyâll clamp down on what could be an oncoming wave of ad-TRP3s and people trying to skirt the rules of keeping things in places where they belong.
So the chances that youâd get reported would be high, and on Blizzardâs side theyâd likely say something along the lines of, âWell, the community doesnât like this, and the community gets to decideâ even if thereâs not a rule specifically written for it yet.
