Question About Ongoing Harassment

Hey all!

I rarely, if ever, start a thread. However, this is an odd situation I’m facing and I could use some advice. I won’t go into specifics though, since it is a potentially sensitive area.

I had previously left a guild due to some major disagreements with the Guild Master. I started getting constant messages from the Guild Master of a somewhat harassing manner. I did put them on ignore.

Fast forward to today. I’m alerted by a guildmate of someone with the same name, same character appearance, same transmogs (which were updated after I passed them in Oribos). I did majorly change the character’s appearance with the hopes of them backing off.

This, to me, seems like an attempt to get my attention and respond to it. I have not. So my question is, does this constitute ongoing harassment?

I would say put in a ticket under that categpry. Explain it just like you did, that they are on ignore and that you are not responding. And let Blizzars take a look.

Just my opinion of course

mmm id suspect, simply changing their race/tmog etc to match yours, but otherwise not engaging with you wouldnt fall under harassment. Unfortunately ppl call call their toons whatever they like if the name is available and tmog however they like as well. Blizz can’t police that.
Now, if they were following you around, pretending to be you and/or dox you etc. Then that would be different.
No harm in putting in a ticket tho, because it creates a paper trail to add too if things escalate. Theres some odd individuals out there that seem to think things like this is funny.

Do you have any rare, hard-to-get transmogs? If they doing this there’s not sense in making it “easy” for them.

I would typically agree with you on this except fpr this snippet right here

I think mimicking the name along with everything else is at least worth the ticket. I think it could possibly maybe cross that line.

Do you know who created the character that is imitating yours? Is it the same person that you had to block/ignore?

Did you see the character that is your twin? Or did the former guild mate just tell you about it?

Is the person that is your twin following you around in the game? Saying rude things to you? Imitating you or emoting you in rude ways? Are they threatening you in any way?

Unless you are personally being harassed, I am not certain anything would be done about this situation. I am sure it is very disquieting for you. I would be upset as well, but I don’t think there would be anything that could be done about it, unless they personally threaten you, or spam you in some way.

There actually was some very inappropriate chat as well, in the form of an emote. Keeping in mind, I already had the original character that caused the issues on ignore, which I believe now ignores all characters on the other account. The inappropriate emote was reported as well.

This would be my expectation as well.

Unless they are doing something verifiably malicious, such as imitation - claiming to be a person they’re not in order to defame - then simply having the name is likely not going to be considered harassment either.

If there is some evidence of imitation or defamation through imitation then definitely open a ticket with the details using the Ongoing Harassment category:

With an open world and more connected community, you may run into other players throughout the game that you would rather avoid. However, unless we’re able to see some clear malicious intention behind a characters choice in name, appearance, or in-game behavior we probably won’t consider it harassment for exisitng.

But again, definitely keep track of things that stand out especially if you already have a history with another player. Open a ticket if something seems to cross that line of intent.

In this case, there was some extremely inappropriate chat (emote) laced with profanity. It was reported. I’ve spent so much time building up relationships and portraying myself as helpful and caring, I have seen some negative effects from this who event.

I did put in a ticket. I hoping the fact I had the account on ignore and they were able to bypass that counts for something. If I understand correctly, even if they used a different Blizzard Account, that would still be bypassing ignore?

Thanks everyone!

Yes, correct.

And I am sorry, I missed your follow-up post about the inappropriate chat/emotes. Getting a ticket submitted was definitely the correct course in that case. Thank you!
