Question about Multiboxers

Hi, all! I want to start off by saying that I know about Blizzard’s general stance with multiboxers: in summary, it’s allowed as long as third-party software isn’t being used, that sort of thing.

It’s not uncommon for me to happen upon a group of 2-5 druids farming herbs. No big deal. I don’t bother to report them because clearly some multiboxing is going on (and I have no way of knowing if they are genuinely cheating).

But here’s my anecdotal experience: I participated in Battle for Nazjatar yesterday as Horde. An Alliance bounty was placed on the map. I spotted the guy–a DK–among a few Alliance. Other Horde were around, so I charged right in–and immediately died.

Only when I spirit-walked back did I realize that the ‘few Alliance’ were actually 20: 15 DKs and 5 shaman. Their names were similar. They were all from the same guild.

As a ghost, I watched them attack other Horde characters that slowly trickled in. One by one, they were hammered into the ground in an instant. And it became clear that we were dealing with a multiboxer. Each character was synced up with the others, attacking the same target with precision and executing with ease.

So I know what some might say: “Awful, you don’t know that they were multiboxers, operating under the same singular controller.”

Of course I don’t. But let’s just pretend that this person was, in fact, multiboxing 20 accounts at the same time.

This leads me to my question: at what point is multiboxing actually an obvious cheat? In other words, is it possible for one person to control 5 characters without the use of third-party software? What about 10? 15? 20?

I looked up the person’s guild and it consists of 40 characters: 5x shaman, 3x warlocks, 17x druids, and 15x DKs. More interesting facts: 22 characters are ilvl 450 and higher with 15 characters above ilvl 460. Most characters are equipped with full corrupted gladiator gear.

Anyway–this is really just for general discussion. I’m just wondering on other opinions regarding multiboxing to this degree. At what point–if any–is too much simply too much?

It’s not, ever. Players don’t get to define what is and isn’t cheating. Only Blizzard is allowed to define such things and Blizzard has made it clear that multi-boxing is not cheating. Players have nothing more than a mere opinion and that doesn’t mean squat in the big picture.

If you don’t like multiboxers, just turn off warmode. :joy:

Tons of threads bashing boxers already dude.

Yesuna boxes, I was a boxer and we are very cool people that don’t cheat, so assumptions can be wrong.

This is just going to catch fire for all the wrong reasons.

Like I said, I’m just curious as to the opinions of others. Maybe even their experiences, too.

Let’s assume 40 players appeared in front of you and one shot you.

That’s basically the same. Yes, the same. There’s little difference here aside from the fact a few people can take 40 characters down controlled by one person versus having zero hope of doing the same against 40 individual players.

I’m not bashing  I’m looking for discussion. Anecdotal experiences. I’m genuinely curious if it’s possible for one person to operate 20 accounts simultaneously without the use of third-party software.

You may not be bashing, but you’ll draw the crowd that does. You’lll see what I mean my friend.

How is it “brainwashing”?
Maybe boxers have an advantage, but it’s not a cheat.

I said this in another thread you commented in…" You don’t like dying to a boxer, turn off Warmode.

It’s allowed and it’s not cheating. Taking down a boxer is not easy but it can be done. I was in a group once that took down Prepared and that was back when he had 60 accts or so.

It took a few tries but eventually he went down.

Dang anything else you guys want removed from Wow? People complained about Pvp on Pvp servers… Blizzard caved.

Stay out of Warmode.

If this is about farming…then move to another spot. Not like there aren’t alot of areas to farm in.

I go where I please, sweetheart. My battle against multiboxing goes far above and beyond pvp cheesing. The reason you never get a response from me is because there’s nothing in your replies to me I feel I need to address. It just doesn’t apply to the things I’ve said. Plus, citing feats that you did in the past has nothing to do with the state of it now.

Its not cheating, but its still pay to win and generally cancerous for a community to have to endure.

I think you need to change your name… Sweetheart.

As for what I say? Nowhere did I ask for your response.

As for citing feats…I said I was in a group that did bring him down, not that I did it. So wasn’t my feat. But thanks anyway.

I don’t remember the name of the player but there was a mboxer who used to torment the other faction, I think he was horde but not sure.

He used to go to Stormshield and just wipe everyone out. A lot of threads were made about him and mboxers in general and how they should be taken out of the game.

Then one day he went to Stormshield and an alli player got hold of one of those lightning wands (I think it was) and that player stood just out of sight while he took down the mboxer and all his toons.

Then the mboxer (It might have been Prepared) came into the forums and had a fit.

It was funny. The player that used the wand got into trouble for doing that, iirc.
I don’t think that was fair.

Moral of this long, redundant story is, it’s not our game so we don’t get to make the rules.

You’re assessing this with an inaccurate statement. Multiboxers always use third party software.

One press performing multiple actions on one character is the line. Repeating keyboard macros are cheating. Third party software is not.

You could legitimately have 1 keystroke send a command to 10 different characters, but it could only send one command. It doesn’t even have to be the same, but it has to be one command.

Well, you can say that now but you clearly have a little arrow in the top right part of your post showing you were replying directly to me, sweetheart.

Just to clarify a few things from my standpoint:

  1. I’m not complaining about dying. I’m not complaining about pvp. I’m not complaining about multiboxing. Come to think of it, I’m not complaining about anything
  2. I feel like I need photographic evidence of a system setup that can handle 20 accounts at the same time xD. Seems like whatever room that person is in, it must be running hot.

About 15 of us tried to take down the ‘head’. It was actually pretty funny–and did not work at all, hah. The 5 shaman spammed chain heal and healing totems while the 15 unholy DKs ripped us apart one by one even with heals. The leaping minion stuns were a real issue.

No… I was replying or commenting on your post…not asking for a response.

I didn’t care whether you answered me or not. Nowhere in any post after any of yours did I make mention that you hadn’t answered me. That is how much I cared.

Okay, I might need to read up on the actual rules. I always figured the third-party software was the issue, with it performing ‘keystrokes’ in lieu of an actual player.

Part of me is disturbed by one person absolutely dominating unfairly (imo, at least) like that; the other part of me is genuinely impressed (sort of…).

I multiboxed a few years ago, but mainly just running dungeons to level up. It is a serious pain in the butt to get it working even for that. I don’t know how people can manage 20 different characters. It isn’t an easy thing to do no matter what kind of hardware and software you’re running.
