It probably depends on what you mean by “blood DK.” Frost presence is probably going to be mostly used for tanking, but a lot of DK tanks will likely have more talent points in the blood tree than other trees.

I don’t see why you couldn’t dps as blood spec since a lot of the talents are more focused on damage compared to tanking. Yes blood does offer a lot of survivability, this doesn’t mean you can’t dps and have you tank instead.
Frost and Unholy was more for tanking because of being great at AoE tanking. Blood can do this as well, but Frost and Unholy offer more in this department, and Unholy gets Bone armor and Anti Magic Zone, which are great defensive abilities.

You cant dps as blood because blood dps is very very bad.
Its a survivability spec, nothing more. Scourge strike, obliterate, and frost strike are more geared towards putting raw damage, while as bloods abilities like heart strike and death strike are not as heavy hitting.
This makes it good at soloing, but without frost strike as runic dump, or disease dmg boost, it lacks dps
Beginning of the expac its meh cuz low crit. During and after Ulduar it get bursts a ton. Its not gonna be meta dps but u can make it work.
Compared to what, AoE trash clearing? Blood is excellent at boss fights, I suggest looking at the talent trees again.

Blood dps is very viable so yes
At this time in wrath patch, you can DPS as any spec, or tank as blood or frost. (You can tank as unholy too, but it’s an offspec tank, like a DPS warrior or a ret paladin tanking, and frost is higher-threat/lower-survivability than blood for tanking so it’s sort of in the middle).
Now, what is possible and what is the best are not the same thing. The best DK tank spec is blood, and blood is the worst DPS spec. But even the worst DK DPS is still pretty good.

We weren’t talking about tanking, was talking about DPS. Are you now back peddling?
You can 100% tank or DPS in Blood spec.
The talents are slightly different depending on which role you are filling.
Blood is what survival hunter was in vanilla. It’s the solo leveling/pvp spec. You can dps in it, you can tank it, but it’s just outright worse for group play than the other options.
Leveling up to 70 and doing normals yeah but once you hit heroics and raids you probably want to switch to unholy or frost. Or just keep tanking like a boss and make the the other tanks cry with your ridiculous threat.
Its **** at trash killing but is better than Frost and Unholy on 1-on-1 fights mate, pretty fair trade-off to have some good single target DPS on the boss fights that only gets better once you give them their Armor Pen and Crit.
Its a viable DPS its just a better Tank.
