So on tuesday when cross realm guilds open how will it work with guilds with the same name. Can their be 2 guilds from the same realm with the same name? In our situation we have a guild thats been transfered a few times over the past 15 years and now we would like to get everyone under the same banner. But we have to do a name change for the guild but the server which the guild is already on has the Guild name we would like. Do we need to transfer the guild and rename it before monday? Sorry for asking here. Can’t seem to find an anwser elsewhere. If anyone knows please let me know.

That said, I’m not too sure how guild names will work, but I imagine that it will likely still only allow one guild per server to have a specific guild name.

While I appreaciate you taking the time to anwser we still don’t have our question anwsered and we would like to know before next week. Because we would have to transfer our guild before they shut that down tuesday if a host realm can’t have the same guild name.

So to be clear. You are looking to xfer a guild from Server A to Server B? And you are curious if there can be 2 guilds with the same name on Server B?
Is that the question?
As far as guilds with the same name, but different server, I’d imagine that the server would be appended, like a player from ServerA…player-ServerA meets player-ServerB. They have the same name, but are from different servers. Perhaps that is your question?
Ok. So its multiple issues.
- We have a guild on the server with the name we would like. Will we be able to change the guild name to the name we desire come tuesday. Or do we have to change it before then.
- You can’t currently currently hand GM of a guild to a member of the opposite faction. Will that be changing by tuesday.
We’d like to know so if we have to transfer and make the changes before they remove these services monday we will.
Zeelos those are some good questions. Perhaps a Blue can help with that. I am not seeing much info out there and have not run into the question here, previously. Perhaps I missed something.
And, frankly, I still have questions, maybe I am being obtuse.
Let’s say the guild name is Immortality, which is the guild name of the character you are posting on. You have that guild name right now. Why can you not just invite others, from whatever faction or server into the guild?
If you are moving everyone over to another server and the guild name you want there is taken, why not just leave one toon holding the current guild name on the current server and reinvite everyone after they server hop?
OK. The guild name is actually Immortality. This version of the guild is on korgath. But we have a version of it on Skullcrusher, and Zuljin as well. The Zul’jin version has all of our guild achievements from the past 15 years. The caveat being the guild name is I M M O R T A L I T Y on zul jin. We would like to change it back to just Immortality. Their is currently another guild on the server name Immortality. We would like to change it to that but don’t know if we can come tuesday. If we are unable to since we don’t know if guilds still have a host realm we will move it before monday.

I think I remember that lol as I have played a long time too. Again, those are good questions. That said, I have a feeling the answer you are looking for w/ re: to I M M O R T A L I T Y on zul jin may not be the one you want. But that is the guild you want due to history/achieves.
However, I cannot say for certain. Perhaps someone here knows more, or perhaps a Blue comes along and helps/provides an answer one way or another, in the morning.
Frankly, I M M O R T A L I T Y isn’t such a bad name, if it turns out not the way you wish, and it is the orginal right?

One problem with is trying to /who, it’s impossible. We started on Skullcrusher in 2004 as Alliance , then to Korgath, Stormrage, and finally a faction change to Horde with the name change including the spaces in an attempt to continue raiding and find new players on more populated realms.
Trying to get everyone active back under one roof with the achievements in tact is the goal here.
With the guild changes incoming the server it lives on isn’t that important to us. Not everyone followed the guild transfers and we’re scattered trying to hang out again.

Well at rhis point u wont get a answer till morning. My 2c is your probably gona have to rename one of the guilds but i guess well see in the morning. Any suggestions are better off in general discussion they wont be heard here.

Another thing to keep in mind - the only Blizzard staff we have on this forum are our SFAs. They are not GMs, let alone Devs. Even if they know more details than has already been leaked (which there are times that they do not), it’s likely they cannot share that information and everyone will just have to wait until next week. It’s not ideal by any stretch, but unless the Devs plan to make a general announcement any time between now and pre-patch - you’re likely not going to be given any answers to your questions/concerns.
Hopefully I’m wrong about having to wait until Tuesday, but only time will tell. Good luck to you.

I know this isn’t fully what you’re looking for, as it’s just an educated guess. I do hope a blue will be able to chime in on this one, because I think it’s important to some people. Personally, I have not seen any kind of official comment on this situation.
It’s unlikely we’ll be able to have multiple guilds with the same name on the same server. Server is the only way we can differentiate between Immortality 1 and Immortality 150. If I get a guild invitation from Immortality, and there are a handful of them on each server (and cross realm and faction are a thing, so there are now many of them everywhere), I have no idea which one sent me the invite. I’d love to think the /who function will be updated to allow cross server searches, so I could even search for Immortality-server1.
My guild has 2 primary chapters, one horde and one alliance, with the same name, on different servers. There are also overflow guilds with the same names on different servers. If these somehow smush all together into essentially the same outward identity, it’s going to be a mess for us.

I’m afraid that isn’t really something Customer Support can answer at this point.
I would assume, like most things Cross-realm, the name will be unique to the realm and if viewed from another realm would have some kind of indicator like characters do.

Do you know who we can ask? Id really like some clarity before all guild services are removed.
As I pointed out above, that is information that the Devs would have. Hopefully, they will have some sort of informative post going up between now and the time servers go live again on Tuesday.
The Devs, they do not come here to see your plea. They’re not great at communication at any given time, really. You’ll have to keep an eye out on GD and/or Wowhead for any official posts that go up. That is where you’ll find the information, if/when the Devs choose to elaborate on the topic.
You can try and tweet @WarcraftDevs, but past that, there really isn’t any one place to post here on the forums that would allow for dialog between you and a Dev. Even the Twitter account isn’t guaranteed, but if you would ever get a Dev response, it’d be there.

I know that I name change will remain I phrased that wrong. The guild services we need. Now I would happly change the guilds race and server faction over right now to avoid this problem and spend the money. Thats no biggie. The issue is we swapped the Guild GM toons yesterday and my understanding is that the GM must hold the guild for 7 days before initiating any guild services and that would be past monday. I looked at the @warcraftdevs twitter account they have not been active for over a year. If anyone in CS could please help us get in contact with a Developer who could help us figure this out we would be really appreciative.
Sorry to say, but that kind of thing isn’t what a blue is able to do, more so when info that isn’t released by the devs themselves. Even if they had such, they’re not really allowed to give out info before it’s released by the devs.
