Quest: Materials of Consequence
Issue: Unable at this time to receive “symbol of faith” from NPC Brave Stonetorch
So let my permanent lockout on this quest be a warning to the rest of you: Do Not Start This Quest and do the micro quest “A Newly Discovered Purpose…” and than abandon it EVER. You want your paladin rune let alone the class reward at the end of the quest line? You protect this quest like it’s the holy grail. Because according to Blizzard, you are SoL.
More info: Accepted quest @level 47, grabbed the first item no issue from NPC Brave Stonetorch, than got asked to join nightmare incursion. In order to accept the quests I ended up abandoning “Materials of Significance” along with many other quests to make room for event quests.
Cannot remember if item disappeared on its own or if I ended up hard deleting it from bags. Cannot remember if I was in the Emerald Dream or in Azeroth when quest was abandoned (I suspect I was inside waiting on escort quest turn ins while organizing quests)
After I hit 50 and got my rep gear headed back to Felwood and and re-accepted quest “Materials of us Significance” Was able to get all other items
Fiery Inferno Core x3, Shimmering Grave Dust x1, Triple Brewed Molten Lager x1
Than I returned to NPC Brave Stonetorch and was not given the option to begin the micro quest “A Newly Discovered Purpose…” to receive the item “Symbol of Faith”
I sat on this and tried a few things on my end such as logging off, phasing into a different layer nothing would begin the micro quest “A Newly Discovered Purpose…”
I finally opened a ticket. The automated bot response responded 24hrs later with a list of obvious solutions one being #2 “Abandon and reaccept the quest.” I responded I didn’t want to and explained I suspect that was part of the original problem. Silence. So I did abandon and lost all items I had already gathered mentioned above and quickly traveled over the sea to Felwood to reaccept the quest and than traveled all the way back to South Shore to ride back to Brave Stonetorch…and was not able to begin the micro quest “A Newly Discovered Purpose…” yet again.
I have abandoned and reaccepted this quest over 5 times now. I have cleared my cache/wtf/interface files, I have run repair diagnostics feature, I have done everything except uninstall and reinstall the game. According to the multiple GM response, there is no bug happening they can see and obviously the game is working the way it is supposed to but report a bug and keep abandoning and reaccepting till it works. There is one person posting about this on the EU blizz forums, handle Wababy, but I was told there is no one posting about it here on the US forums
GM’s insist that this is the only way to get peoples attention so here I am.
My take away from Blizz Support is that some players are just destined due to RNG coding to just never be able to complete this quest, and it’s working as the game is designed and intended to work.
