I hit level 50 and went to the bathroom and came back and my character had been teleported from outlands to orgrimmar. I was confused but there was a question mark to turn in a quest so I went to the question mark and talked to lor’thermar theron and now my quest log says I have 24/25 quests and when I count I only have 24 quests but my quest log is full when I try to accept quests. Every ticket I’ve put in and every piece of advice I have sought tell me to abandon the quest and pick it back up to fix it but…there’s a mystery 25th quest in my quest log and nobody seems to grasp that you can’t abandon a quest that according to your quest log doesn’t exist. I have no data to prove it but in my experience the quests that auto pop up and accept cause these issues and making a new character every time your current one can’t hold a full cadre of quests anymore just gets old. It makes far more sense to just get rid of quest log limits but at the least I’d like to at least fix this issue so I can go back to playing the game.
I would start off by Resetting your UI, and see how that goes.
I reset the UI. I also turned off all my addons and reset my computer and came back and there was still no change.
I just want to make sure you followed the directions as resetting your UI and turning off addons are 2 completely different things. If you reset your UI, there would be no addons when you launch the game.
If I recall the exact sequence of events back when the problem first occured which was three or four days ago now I immediately reset the ui because its fixed problems for me in the past. When it didn’t fix it I logged out completely and logged back in and made sure no addons were enabled. Once I logged in then it still didn’t work so I reset the ui again just to make sure. Still didn’t. That’s when I shut down my computer and came back today and its still doing the same thing.
You can’t reset your UI while logged into the game, because you’re messing with the game files. /reloadui isn’t the same thing.
You need to do a full UI clear - delete Cache, Rename Interface and WTF folders. When you relaunch, you will have 0 addons. They won’t be disabled, they’ll be gone. After that, see if your issue persists. If it doesn’t, one of your addons is causing the issue and you’ll have to figure out which one.
If your issue persists, you can remove the new Interface and WTF folders, and rename the old ones back to their original names. (I usually use WTFOld and InterfaceOld when renaming; just delete the Old when you’re ready to go back to your prior setup.)
Is there a site somewhere that walks me through doing all that? I fear that’s beyond my normal range of knowledge.
Here you go:
I have done the full UI clear now and the issue persists. I have some phantom quest that the game says I have that I cannot actually see or work on or abandon and no idea what the heck to do about it.
Have you checked other characters to make sure it isn’t an account-wide quest (such as for a pet battle)?
Also, when you open up your quest log, are you clicking WORLD on the top left of the map to make sure you are looking at the entirety of the quest list?
Mind if I take a look, Nyrdstrum? I can more easily compare what your seeing to what our system says you have that way.
I don’t need you to do anything but stay off the character. You can use another while I’m looking. Just let me know.
I do have all the quests selected so it’s not related to that. I don’t know about account wide quests. I didn’t even realize account wide quests existed. I guess I need to go clear the quest logs of all my other characters.
Hi, I’m his wife, he’s currently not on this particular character. If you could take a look, that would be fabulous.
Go for it. I’m killing time in hearthstone right now anyway. Thanks for trying to help!
Alright. Looking at your quest log in my tool as well as your in-game quest log, you appear to have the following quests:
Arelion’s Mistress
Azerite for the Horde
Bait Bandits
Before Darkness Falls
Beneath Thrallmar
Breaking Down Netherock
Clues in the Thicket
Even Gronn Have Standards
Fires Over Skettis
Magisters’ Terrace
Maintaining the Sunwell Portal
Naaru Technology
Olemba Seed Oil
Rebuilding the Staff
Seek Out Kirrik
Strange Energy
Super Hot Stew
Terokk’s Legacy
Testing the Antidote
The Dreghood Elders
The Ogre Threat
Voidwalkers Gone Wild
Warp-Raider Nesaad
Who Are They?
You’re Hired!
I can see them in the default UI, so hopefully you can as well. If you cannot, I’d try another UI reset. A few of those are dailies:
Bait Bandits
Fires Over Skettis
Maintaining the Sunwell Portal
Super Hot Stew
So probably could be abandoned safely.
You providing me the list has enabled me to identify the problem quest at least. The quest is azerite for the horde. You say its in my log, but it does not show it anywhere when I’m logged in. I looked it up on wowhead and it’s a daily that gets auto accepted when it pops up. I think the auto accept feature creates problems when they pop up and you’re already at 25 quests. But is there any way somebody can abandon that azerite for the horde quest? I would do it myself but as I said it does not seem to want to show up in my quest log no matter what.
I don’t believe so. Really, if you aren’t actively working on any of the other quests you should be able to abandon it without any issues.
Get rid of a few others and it should resolve. Write down what they are so you can get them again if you ever want them.
The Quest log is odd, in that it does not show how many quests you have out of the 25. I had to get an addon to show me so I could plan things out.
In theory they want you to work through them so this does not happen, but when you get working on older content for achievements it is easy to run into.
What’s the addon?
I am not sure what I used because it was simple and ended up not supported.
I am likely going to grab this one though. Looks light and simple and just adds counts to your total in the default UI.

It was just updated so the author is keeping it current.
