Quel'thalas belongs to the Alliance

I can’t imagine anything that would make the High Elf fans scream louder than having all the Highs go Void.

. . . . . .

Let’s do this.

I don’t disagree with your assessment here, apologies if this was not clear from my previous post. The Silver Covenant are an excellent option for fighting in Quel’Thalas against the Amani, absolutely, and Halduron was correct to see that value and seek their assistance. It was a good, pragmatic choice, and one that highlights why he’s a good Ranger-General. I’m just pointing out that it doesn’t really give us any indication how big the Silver Covenant is relative to the Farstriders, because Halduron doesn’t ask for assistance due to an overall lack of rangers under his command. He asks for assistance because he wants to respond to the new Amani threat quickly with more numbers than he has readily available to him at that moment, not wait while more of his own rangers return from assignments, or recall them early and sacrifice whatever other work he has them doing. We don’t know how many forces in total Halduron has under his command as Ranger-General, just that most of them are busy elsewhere.

I’m well aware of this. This is exactly why I find it strange that she doesn’t show any animosity towards Halduron in Legion, though. She’s more than willing to express disdain for Lor’themar in both Cata and Legion, and she tries to shoot Rommath multiple times in Suramar, but I can’t recall any specific negative remarks aimed at Halduron, even though he’s both Lor’themar’s best friend and, as Ranger-General of Silvermoon, upholds and influences the leadership choices that she despises. Halduron personally took part in Silvermoon’s assault on the Isle of Thunder, her part in the Alliance assault there put her directly against his forces. Lor’themar was good friends with both Alleria and Sylvanas before the Third War, and he at times seems saddened that he’s lost those relationships, but I’ve never gotten a similar feeling from how he and Vereesa act towards each other, just mutual spite. It just feels to me like there’s something else going on there, perhaps a dislike that precedes the Third War.

Opposing the Sunreavers is the entire reason Vereesa founded them, so that makes sense. I suppose that’s sort of what I mean by saying that they just go wherever Vereesa tells them. She determines the best course of action to thwart the Sunreavers at whatever they’re doing and adjusts her orders accordingly. If the Sunreavers aren’t doing anything in particular (which they often aren’t, since they’re initially basically a social club/labor union of Kirin Tor members who happen to belong to Horde nations), then Vereesa has a lot of flexibility in what she tells her rangers to do.

He was on the Council of Six, of course Dalaran would be his priority over other human nations. He was still interested in what the other kingdoms in the Alliance were up to though, which made sense considering he was helping lead one of them. He attended state dinners in Dalaran and gave opinions on political discussions that involved other Alliance nations. On a personal level, he courted the daughter of the Lord Admiral of Kul Tiras and found a rival for her affection in the crown prince of Lordaeron. He sought out assistance from the Alliance after the Scourge invaded Quel’Thalas. Kael’thas was very much not the isolationist his father was, and might have sought to bring Quel’Thalas back to the Alliance permanently had it not been for Garithos.

A holistic view, yes, but at the time of the event in question, the elves in Outland had been missing and presumed dead for more than a decade.

Vereesa wouldn’t have witnessed any of that though, she was living in Dalaran at the time. She mentions at one point in Legion that “Your leaders have turned their backs on the sacrifices made by my family and so many others,” but she never clarifies exactly which of the many possible offenses she means by that, or why Halduron is seemingly exempt from her ire despite being one of said leaders.

:see_no_evil: Great minds think alike! I actually would love to bury the hatchet and make all living High Elves go Void just to see the reaction on the forums. :hear_no_evil:

how did she get exiled then?

dalaran was also rubble before wrath so what else would she be doing

shes also stated she wont see quel’thalas fall and its still her homeland. i find it hard to believe she would prioritize helping rebuild dalaran under that purple dome while her fellow farstriders are fighting to reclaim their lands

aethas and the sunreavers i could see prioritizing rebuilding dalaran but not vereesa or the SC rangers

Ironically they seemed quite close before the Scourging. There’s a scene in Sylvanas where our eponymous “heroine” moves to punch Vereesa in the face for getting Lirath killed, but Lor’themar protects her from the blow and he and Vereesa hobble off together to dry her tears.

She didn’t embrace mana tapping of living creatures (since she had a human mage for a husband who helped her withstand the withdrawals), and Lor’themar made it clear that anyone who didn’t embrace that technique was no longer welcome in Quel’Thalas.

Living with her husband and raising her twin sons.

Thanks, I haven’t read Sylvanas yet.

Oh absolutely not.
That’s not interesting to me and so far joining the void has so far been an accident that was averted from a complete disaster. That theme should persist imo, High Elves in the abscence of the Sun Well got void infected. Something like that.

Voluntary void joining? eh… to boring and in favor of Blizzard’s march of “everybody is good… and bad!”

if raising her sons were that important she never would have left to defend quel’thalas when it needed her

or tried to join the horde after mop, walking through trisfal glades before remembering her kids and changing her mind

or leaving to go look for alleria with the farstriders and then going off world

and arator can watch them

lorthemar exiled those protesting in quel’thalas. pretend shes standing in the ruins of dalaran this entire time, theres no reason to exile her if shes not in quel’thalas because she cant divide the nation there(lol). so she must have been in quel’thalas at some point. but to say she was in dalaran the entire time is a reach with nothing to back it up. theres an entire gap from classic to wrath for her thats speculative

It’s called playing politics. And she was by necessity, a politician. That’s what most such talks involve, you hold back your bile until you’re back alone among your confederates.

I may be wrong, but weren’t the Scryers Blood Elves that had followed Kael’thas through his campaigns in Outland and Northrend, and then after being ordered to attack Shattrath City, turned against Kael’thas and joined A’dal? If this is the case, and if Lanesh were a Scryer, it falls to reason he was a Blood Elf.

As for Outland High Elves having a narrative of returning to Quel’Thalas to join the Blood Elves, that’s contradictory to what we saw of them in Outland.

In two cases we see High Elves either planning to just stay where they are, or talking about Stormwind.

Now, one can argue this is old lore, and you’re right. The thing is, there isn’t any new lore suggesting High Elves are returning to Quel’Thalas either. I know you like to point out that Auric was the High Elf representative at the Sunwell in the Quel’delar quests from Wrath. The thing is, he isn’t present at the Sunwell anymore. We don’t know what happened to him, but considering they wanted to throw him in jail anytime a non-Blood Elf obtained Quel’delar, it didn’t seem like he was particularly welcome to begin with. This also passes over the fact the Alliance had an Island Expedition team named after him in BFA, which would be weird to do if he was a member of the Horde.

This isn’t to say there isn’t a narrative possibility that High Elves are returning to Quel’Thalas. There’s just no canon lore to support it. For RP’ers, by all means RP your blue-eyed Blood Elf as a High Elf coming home. It certainly makes sense on an individual basis, but there just isn’t any evidence of large-scale repatriation.

we see the views of 2 elves. one expressing their opinion of the current status quo of their people and not post of learning their people just fought a civil war against kaelthas and the felbloods and that the sunwell is restored. i believe its at this point they decided to return to their homeland and check things out for themselves and auric represents them. there is literally no other group that would he need to represent. and aurics last lore location is still in quel’thalas. why would he leave?

the other elf is simply offering seeds to the player to take back to stormwind

there was never lore to say all ‘high elves’ left thats your own creation, only that some were exiled. the customizations arent RP options. a void elf with a blood elf skin tone is still a void elf no matter what they wish. blood elves can make up any story such as a SC ranger bored of a human city returning to their forests or a ‘high elf’ that simply never left

Is the lore team consulted on customization options?

  • The team was consulted on various options to determine if they were appropriate or not to the lore and universe. They are 100% on board with all of the options.

  • The team wants Azeroth to be a place you can express yourself.

He may be in Quel’thalas. That does not me he has joined the Horde/he remained. We did get an entire Island expedition team named after him.

As for why he would leave, same reason the high elves left/stayed with the Alliance. Either they had a deeper loyalty to the Alliance or just hated the Horde more. Especially a Horde that just started a world war and was killing the very people that once gave them shelter from their very own brethrens who banished them.

Devs said his blue eyes were not a glitch / bug (which I have heard a certain alliance elf community did try to report it as such) and there is story there we just haven’t seen it yet.

Blood Elves eyes were green at that time. If he linked up w the Scryers it was on Outland which his tattered clothing suggests. Yet he is w the Blood Elves in MOP. The implications of Outland High Elves returning home is definitely there. Disregarding Auric, but especially w Auric.

The problem is we don’t know Lanesh’s story.

He could be a High Elf that said, “I’ve really had enough of the Alliance, I want to go home, For The Horde!” Or he could very well be a prisoner, forced to serve the Blood Elves against his will. Or he could’ve been the first Blood Elf whose eyes turned back to blue from the Sunwell’s new state.

I’m not saying you cannot be hopeful for a story that suits a narrative that interests you. That said, there just isn’t any lore that supports the idea of High Elves repatriating to Quel’Thalas at this time. RP’ers can of course do what they choose, and there are plenty of High Elves out there that don’t pick either the Horde or the Alliance at all.

Its just, for the moment, this narrative doesn’t exist.

you can live in a country and not join its military

the high elves left the alliance. but its always amusing how you people phrase it like a couple elves staying behind means something

very true. blood elves can create any background. void elves will always be a void elf no matter what they tell themselves

I always assumed it was just a handful of High Elves that remained alliance. Most, if I remember correctly, are actually neutral and live in Dalaran.

it was. and when you press them for evidence to prove otherwise they have none. often just repasting the contrived lore from wc3 to let alliance have elven units. we know it was always a few individuals because devs have clarified it

My position is this, since the devs gave void elves MOST of the blood elf customizations, nothing stopping people from RPing a high elf if they want to. But realistically expecting all 12, maybe 20 high elves still in the alliance to become playable is…well silly. There are races alliance side who need actual love and attention, and we don’t need ANOTHER sub faction of elf joining either faction

Agreed! Nothing I’ve seen in the lore shows the High Elves repatriating on individual basis let alone en masse. Vereesa working with Sylvanas against Garrosh with the consideration of joining her in Undercity was more of a dream than a reality. I feel like some people on here are grasping at straws to make it a thing.

To be fair, the High Elves in the Alliance number in the hundreds if not up to or around a thousand plus and that’s the Silver Covenant faction etc. We see they have elves in Stormwind, and scattered around Dalaran and several bases around the world. I don’t see my character as a High Elf, but a Void Elf who kept his High Elf features. Nothing more. Nobody in 2022 should be trying to beat this dead horse any further. The High Elves will never be playable and the closest an Alliance player will get is with a Void Elf. Horde has blue eyes Blood Elves to give them that option if they really want to RP as a High Elf, repatriating as an individual.
