That’s the comment I made on the AMA. The only one they really answered was the last question I asked.
That certainly seems the likely answer.
There will still be 1 skeleton for every person who died… so there could still be hundreds, just not thousands.
People get upset about the dumbest stuff honestly.
This AMA was amazing. I didnt even know i was worried about half this stuff but i feel so relieved after reading about the layering and loot tables haha. Thanks so much for alleviating some of the stress of waiting until Monday. Thanks for all the hard work.

Obviously not a deal breaker but it does seem like a silly reason. Why should everyone have something they like taken away because a few knuckleheads might waste their time writing something naughty? Should we remove character models because you can all stand in formations of bad words?

I am losing the chance to see thousands of skeletons piled on a battlefield which is something I like.
You get hundreds, which you will notice exactly 1 time for 30 seconds.
Find something more meaningful to care about.
I’m actually writing another comment because I’m so upset about this skeletons change. It is a completely unwarranted change. Make it a perm bannable offense to write slurs in skeletons and enforce it. People abusing that was so incredibly rare and the skeletons are frankly an integral part of classic. Such a slippery slope type of change. Consider why skeletons were great:
As mentioned above, skeletons signified that battles had gone down and huge pvp engagements occurred. It was SCARY to walk into an area and see a graveyard of bones, knowing danger was lurking about at any moment. It added to the experience of imagining the battles that took place and constantly looking over your shoulder. It make the game experience more real and is huge for immersion. It really is.
Skeletons played a big role in coordinated raid movements and dungeon movements. Running to go to an UBRS, leading the pack, if you saw a bunch of skeletons inside the gates to the mountain than you would tell your team and wait to group up because there could be alliance in there waiting to kill you. They were a warning sign.
Skeletons were a symbol of perseverance in raids. I literally still have screenshots from our first time in Blackwing Lair wiping over and over again, skeletons littering the floor. It showed that you battled hard for hours and you eventually won. The skeletons symbolized a hard-earned victory which always resulted in beautiful screenshots.

Removing skeletons is pointless and actually ruins game immersion. Why? Because one or two losers might spell bad words? WoW classic was the wild west, and if it really is that big of a concern make it a bannable offense and follow through on it. Don’t take away a core game component from the rest of us for stuff someone MIGHT do. What will be next? I won’t be able to summon infernals at crossroads for fun?
Making QoL changes like this takes us down the path all of us have been warning you about for years.
