My GM had told me that Cata PvP is busted, saying that Resilience alone has not caught up with gear, especially what goes for BiS. This was when I learned about why PvP Power was introduced to PvP gear in Mists. So if PvP is to survive in Classic, Classic Mists must certainly be on the way.
The Dev Watercooler affirms it, so it’s settled. The funny irony is that people actually DEFEND Cata and pre-Cata PvP. Gear is one of the few things a player can control(and knowing how to gear is a skill issue), so for those who want to compete on a budget, they have no choice to but mix and match PvE pieces for what’s BiS.
It would have been nice if Blizz added PvPP in retrospect, because they already added and removed things that were present in Cata Retail. PvPP would ensure that anyone who is wearing at least full Honor gear won’t be struggling AS MUCH as those who “paid to win”, iykyk.
Failing this, let Classic Mists come. I had others tell me it was quite the golden age of PvP. If that’s the case, that didn’t stop the snarkiest Trade chat comments about how “good” Cata PvP is. Gear MATTERS a great enough deal, and with decent skill, might overcome a superior class/spec in 1v1.
I enjoyed mist of pandaria. Had some of best zones in wow to date And world pvp was alive and healthy throughout the expansion, but let’s just say they will turn these servers into progression servers… if mist does come they will not stop there. That’s halfway through all current expansion life cycles so they have no means to and end until caught up to live.
I kinda feel like the crappier the gear, more you need to develop skills to perform. Because you cant just lean on procs or damage output that you would have with better gear. This is the mentality i have atm anyway. I definitely see any issues im having as a lack of skill to be worked on. Gear will come and go, skill is what makes pvp better imo
Some don’t get we got mostly what we got…the first time.
As a classic convert who never saw this the first time…it’s not too bad a time.
I like tol barad. Tis a fun place. new content to me I can enjoy. I like the nail biters when offence kills towers to extend time even.
WG they crapped up but as a retail convert…I am used to WG being a mess. No king rules forever. It was decent in wrath redo and I have that. Cata wg is jsut an honor maker. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. It can’t get fixed since only this bg must have 80 scaled vehicles. To be authentic…or something.
can’t speak on rated since IRL had me go I can’t really pursue that till august. Maybe.
It’s an Orwellian farm, you know. “Some class/specs are more equal than others”. That matters when EVERYONE, unprivileged enough to not have “friends” or much gold, needs to go to Tol Barad to get dailies done.
So enjoying it is mostly a class/spec choice and that which is APPROPRIATE for WPvP, or just PvP in general, like the golden RMP triad…
We can’t show mains because mains are shown only in a certain way…
@Ivixia MoP made things right when you didn’t have a special PvP zone. There were no sanctuary hubs either(just a few pockets), which means you can PvP ANYWHERE and that means ANYWHERE. Timeless Isle is especially going to get interesting in the FFA department.
Blizz might have accidentally learned that creating WG and TB caused a whirlpool of PvP. TBC was relevant because multiple zones had WPvP engagements. That’s not going to be a problem in Mists. Now oddly enough, why they made the same mistake with Trashran the xpac after is another story…
That’s exactly what I’m saying. Better yet, that’s exactly the HISTORY. Forget I said it, because that’s not important. I was on the XBox 360 most of the time the devs saw what the problem was, and they’re the ones that decided it.
Yes, the devs found that PvE gear was better than PvP gear for BiS in PvP. Because the sheer ILVL of it, the STATS you would need also. The best-geared person for PvP would have had mixed and matched *roic raid gear with CQ/Duelist gear.
It wouldn’t be that much of a Resil dropoff. If you go half and half, you might forsake 500-1000 Resil, but the amount of DAMAGE you would do would overcome the LESSER amount the other guy would do with their maxed out Resil.
In other words, you’re doing MORE damage in the tradeoff than the more damage you take when you pursue what’s technically BiS. You’re hurting the other guy more than they are hurting you, which means YOU win.
Your 3k Resil with crap damage isn’t going to budge the ~2.5k Resil guy with far better stacked stats and set bonuses.
I like to think that Blizz would have noticed the problem that this diminished PvP participation in some way, that you can’t do full PvP if you wanted to when Cata was Retail, that you’re FORCED to do PvE to truly be competitive in your class/spec role. That those who did full PvP lagged behind those who did both, which is a greater time commitment.
For a fire mage with the current crappy gear we have it is >.< even going mental into crit you still cant really get procs unles you force them happen. being able to pull of a pyro crit ignite combust is like seeing a unicorn … unless you set it up to make it happen, which is i think a skill issue. So maybe really good firemages can reliably generate procs and ignites at the right times, but I think most would have to go heavy into raid gear to get there.
SOME pve gear is better than pvp gear for sure. One example of this are the heroic raid trinkets. They are significantly better than any pvp trinket out there. Especially for alliance. Heart of rage by itself almost gets you y our expertise cap for pvp. That’s huge.
And later on in the expac more and more pve items will become viable and in high end pvp, almost required for most classes. Almost forcing players who really have no interest in pve, into raids.
While I don’t think that’s the end of the world as I’m neither a top tier raider or a 2000+ pvper, it’s still the truth.
