(pvp) why is it easier to kite as survival and to do just as much dmg kiting vs MM ( the archer/ranger spec)

i get the hybrid style SV has but cmon…

Most likely because MM has to stand still to hard cast aim shot.

SV > MM all day no matter the build

SV was designed to be one of the best kiting specs in the game. MM was designed to be a long range turret.

Think Batman versus Sniper.

If you want MM to have amazing kiting skills, you’re going to have to sacrifice damage. I doubt most will want to make that sacrifice…

BM is the best kiting spec. SV is #2.

The main reason MM falls short is because of focus regeneration. You have very limited ability to spam arcane shot because you just run out of resources with limited ability to restore focus.
That’s the trade off for having an amazing burst window every 2 minutes. Saving rapid fire for when you’re oof can help a lot.

Dont nerf sv, buff mm. I have played av since legion and I think it feels the best it as ever. We need mastery to be changed to leech% and some minor damage tweeks but the waybit feels to play is great.

My perspective is from non rated pvp.

MM hasn’t been “designed” since Cataclysm.

This cuts to the bone.

If you want a deep cut, I was in the Cataclysm beta trying to get things ironed out for hunters making extensive effort posts and they completely ignored us.

I appreciate your efforts.

Marks kites much easiesr due to having bursting shot, a long as you are using a cunning pet. You just wont be doing any damage while kiting lol

Two different playstyles; the way you are looking at it OP is incorrect.

MM has to stand still to do big dam. While kiting that damage is for the most part non-existent. With MM you play the big setup and do high burst damage in the kill window.

SV can do damage while kiting; although it’s nothing spectacular. But it’s certainly nothing to ignore.

Overall dmg on a meter is not a good way to calculating success in arena. Take sub rogue for example. Far less overall damage but can kill someone in 1 go instantly.

I’m assuming you are talking arena here. But either way the general point i’m making is the same.

they progressively have made it harder to Kite without give us anything so we are a squishy class that can get slammed by melee with no buffs to Exhilaration of wilderness medicine or survival of the fittest or turtle in return.

Not saying it’s nearly enough, but SotF was literally that “anything” that was given with Dragonflight, opposite others’ added mobility.

  • …Now if we could just get Cheetah and Turtle CDs lowered to 2 minutes, with BtbW also extending duration slightly. And/or a second charge of Disengage.

i don’t consider

because it was a 3min pet ability that they gave us and now 2.4min. The best thing we got was the new Bear tenacity heal but thats still 2 min heal and hp buff

Exhilaration and Wilderness medicine needs to be buffed and Good luck asking for more mobility from the devs that took it away because kiteing can be OP without giving out more charges and stuns to other classes to counter so i consider the arms race for mobility to be over and now our healing need to be better because now every melee can catch up hold us and burst us down and there not much you can do if you teamed up on in BG without a healer near. I know with just 1 melee i can sometimes get away with 20% my health but now even Execute is a charge and it didnt matter that i survived everything on a 1min CD or longer im still dead even if i disengage and start kiteing.

Also SV has the net talent + Harpoon root to guarantee traps which makes a big difference.

No, because it [SotF] is now free, allowing you to stack it with any of the family-based pet abilities.

They didn’t take away any mobility with Dragonflight outside of the Cheetah conduit / borrowed powers.

It’s just that we got a bit less relative mobility increases than what many of our most critical mobility-matchups got. Bounding Stride and Shadowstep are now essentially free, for instance, while we get… a less costly ToE (SV), HET/Intimidate, Binding/Scatter, and Entrapment. Our bonuses were relative mobility, but given the number of potential resists… yeah, it doesn’t feel like quite enough.

A buff to others mobility is a nerf to ours is how is see it since thats like 75% of out survivability kit is staying out of reach and waiting for long CD. So they took away our mobility i see it as back door nerfing. So thats why i gave you a heart cause your right they didnt take anything from use but they changed the game around us severely limiting what our mobility was capable of. AND if thats what they want then the can redesign to make the class more noob friendly and buff us where we are lacking better self healing and defensives.

But by that same equation then, though, any increase to your means of decreasing enemies’ mobility would be an increase to your own, then, no?

We had that. Previously at-cost CC options are now effectively free.

Again, as a Hunter I feel slightly short-changed, but we can’t simultaneously ask for, say, peak CC and peak raw mobility.

Or give them a deadzone which balanced out our high damage and high utility\high mobility back in the day.

I personally miss old hunter balance from Cata
