The warbound global renown track as implemented in LOU has huge potential for PvP. Every season PvP struggles to attract PvE players and retain existing players due to its rating based seasonal reward structure.
Instead of incentivizing early and late season climbs, use rating as a modifier to renown games. The higher the MMR of your win, the more renown you gain. Rewards on the track could include:
- % modifier to honor/conquest gains.
- Reduced cost of PvP gear across your warband.
- A new seasonal title and mount (one that has additional skins like dirigible)
- Moving the conquest weapon token and ribbons to renown.
- Gaining open world PvP modifiers.
- Tokens to obtain elite set pieces on alts.
-
- Moving the season enchant and tabard to renown rewards.
Once the renown track is filled, additional wins could contribute towards chests that might contain previous elite sets, conquests, toys etc. that can be sent to alts.
Titles and elite sets could be retained as pure rating based rewards.
This system would promote a more casual friendly experience for PvP, provide a longer lasting reward track for PvPers, and make gearing alts much faster in the late season.

Ye, I’ve been thinking that pvp and unranked in particular needs a sort of progression outside of the usual gearing.

The delve journey system has milestones to it that seem like they could easily translate into a PvP rewards track. Similar to a battle pass style.
I like the idea of a renown track as well.
Just giving players a way to better visualize the rewards they can earn from PvPing would probably bring people into the mode.

I assume the rewards track they are talking about would be a whole new rewards structure that wouldn’t be strictly rating based.
Though rating based rewards would presumably still exist of course to keep a level of prestige in the game.
Correct, it would function exactly like the delvers journey or the LOU renown track. Winning games at higher rating would accelerate completing the track. The track would be completely seasonal and not bound to a character.
And yes, it would be in additional to purely rating based rewards.
They tried to do something like this with the honor system but it’s too long of a grind and isn’t refreshed each season so it’s just…bad. And not really interacted with.
IDK man, most PVPers don’t like grinds
Renown track is somewhat like a grind, if they keep it casual and not tied to prestigious rewards and totally optional, that would be A-Ok.
Also the barrier for PVErs to join PVP and enjoy is not the lack of a renown track in PVP or the need to hit rating to get rewards (well, it could be that for some). But the barrier is mainly skilled experienced players they end up going against and get brutally shut down and flamed.
Most pvpers don’t like playing in general, and I think you underestimate the average wow players desire to fill a bar.
Yeah, it’s a weekly and seasonal thing to keep chipping away at. A bit of structure/encouragement.
YO KENNIE! what race did you play before BFA?
If you hand people full bis and say boom you’re good to play ranked insta most people don’t queue because that isn’t what most people want.
Kind of weird after talking with people who just live and breathe ranked, huh.

When? during the template phase of PVP?
Yeah most people don’t like getting owned, which makes them feel like S***. And on top of that if they get flamed by others. PvP is not for everyone.
Just in general. Right now, even.
But when you beeeg and stompin’ on people
rarrrrrr
I think you’re completely right here. Unrated PvP should be able to fill some kind of reward bar. Overwatch for example, competitive or quick play can both fill the battle pass. It’s a structure that works. It’s a very visual way to see what you can get if you do this content.
Definitely wouldn’t want to see any kind of paid in-game battle pass. That would be ridiculous. But a track for cosmetics for casual players to dip their toes in would be great to at least create fresh incentive.
Ehhh.
EHHHHHHHHHHH.
Their reluctance to monetize character customization has been kind of detrimental.
In WoW? How would you monetize character customization? Like hairstyles?
People already blow a gasket over transmogs and mounts being on the shop. I personally do not care, just saying a lot of people seem to.
Yer. Either directly from the shop or via trading post. Actually I’m surprised there isn’t a sort of premium trading post pass for an extra $5 a month or something that allows you to earn another 500-1500 tenders via the activities.
(There’s way more activities than one ever needs and they take no time)
Mhm, and now we just don’t get char customization because it’s not worth the resources.

That’s an interesting perspective. I guess I’ve never really thought about it that way but you’re right money talks.
