Hi blizzard thanks for trolling us with SL gearing.
There was nothing wrong with cata gearing
pvp to grind points
Spend points for gear
Increased cap for people with higher rating
2200 rating for weapons thatâs it.
Set bonuses for pvp
Pvp stat.
Keep it simple.
I would %100 take cata gearing over 9.1 gearing. However, I believe the best iteration of pvp gearing was WoD. The only flaw I recall was having to farm accolade.
The cata system had a t2 weapon which is still a reverse handicap. Why give the more skilled players even more of an advantage. They are already better in terms of game knowledge and strategy.
I guess best was really WOD.
The ilvl boosts a gear provides in pvp needs to basically make any pve trinkets and set bonuses redundant
Or just disable said pve items in pvpâŠ
Because if you are Cristiano Ronaldo you will earn a lot more than someone, who just play soccer every 2-3 month. Do you argue there as well with: âThis guy is so much better than me, why does he also get the advantage to earn a lot more because of it?!â
Of course not, nobody would question that because itâs common sense!
It definitely was the best PvP gearing system we had!
Template system would also be fine, but only if you can maintain your secondary stats the way you want them to be!
Financial compensation is not the same ilvl advantages. No one here is arguing that 1600 players should be rewarded with tournament prize money.
But they also get a lot of advantages, even outside of soccer, right? Itâs normal that more talented people get more advantages in their field.
But even alone in soccer, I am quite sure they all have personal trainers, some software that helps them to improve a lot more than you could ever as an amateur and so on.
I think youâre missing the point Xuxu. These two points are orthogonal to each other:
- Players who succeed more, should be rewarded for their successes with better gear.
- PvP content should be a skill based game.
Do you see the problem? One solution, an average one albeit, is templating. Fix stats, make gear irrelevant, but you lose gear based rewards. And people would argue that the game isnât just skill based at low to mid brackets. People will argue that really, itâs just a grind from 0-1800, and thatâs when the real skill game that matters begins.
But that doesnât mean we should punish the players who arenât there yet by fighting players who crossed an arbitrary threshold (e.g. 1400 or 1600) and got better gear, but then lost a game or two and dropped below that threshold and are now fighting players who donât have that gear, but are similarly skilled⊠Thatâs nonsense.
Right but those are real world scenarios. This is a fantasy world. A world where game designers decide who gets what advantages. They are making a conscious decision to give higher skilled players an even greater advantage.
I understand that the higher rated players âearnedâ these rewards, but they donât have to be ilvl increase rewards. They could be titles, aesthetics, mounts etc.
Which means we can get them even a bigger advantage, right? Be happy the advantage is only slightâŠ
They made the decision to lean it on a real world scenario. They tried it differently in legion and the echo was clear! I mean, the expansions with an even bigger disadvantage (Wotlk for example) had a lot more populationâŠ
The only worst things about the systems right now are the rng and the massive time sink that comes along!
I gave real world examples where the advantage is also in the playing field, like the personal trainer or computer-assisted data collection and evaluation to further extend the skill advantage, etc.
Everything an amateur could only dream ofâŠ
I pvped the most during wrath. I spent maybe 2 to 4 weeks gearing during wrath before i spent months at an equal level. The only time during wrath pre-2k weapons, gear became and issue, was when I was queing rmp (pre-2k) in a brand new season, and TSG pve heros had legendary weapons that JUST CAME OUT(better than 2k weaps) and no one had 2k weapons yet. After about a month into the season it wasnât an issue anymore. Wotlk didnât have HARDLY ANY pvp gear issue imo. It is way worse now. Atleast in wrath I could just bg to be at 95% power level compared to today which only get you to about 70 - 80% max power level.
People only disliked legion gearing because they couldnât customize their secondary stats.
And you canât say wotlk was hugely popular so therefor the pvp gearing system was good. Wotlk was good because class design was good, content was good, etc.
When a stronger golfer plays with a lesser golfer, they handicap themselves. In blizzards world, when a stronger player versus a lesser player the stronger player is given an advantage instead of a handicap.
âŠ
Thatâs why I wrote
But itâs also not completely true. People also disliked Legion system because there wasnât anything to achieve (gear wise). No gear progressâŠ!
I never said gearing was the only reason why - but obviously people still loved the game with an unfair gearing system, but even hated it with a âsocializedâ gearing system. So itâs a valid argument - just not if you present it out of any context.
And what would the stronger golfer do in such case? He would try anything to get a better golfer, no? But one thing he would never do is to cry about other golfer because they have the better equipment - he would instead try to get the same equip!
I think you got my point!
Him earning a lot more is cosmetic lol⊠Which is already what glads and such get⊠More cosmetic stuff. As it should be.
But the pro would never play against the amateur⊠Most pros have access to the same trainers and most amateurs have access to the same resources.
Giving advantages in competitive modes make no sense. Giving Cristiano soccer cleats and then make him play against amateurs in bare feet would never happen. Why does that happen in wow?
