After the scaling/squish in 7.3.5, the ilevel squish in 8.0, enchants finally fully scaling and nerfed gems, the gear gaps between twinks, serious levelers and casual levelers are the smallest they’ve ever been in most brackets. Some brackets are outliers though, like 59s getting outland/northrend gear and professions, 110s/119s with azerite/antorus/timewalking gear and some OP items in between.
Even if most levels are fine, the broken ones are an argument for separation. The game is huge, and if anyone expects Blizzard to keep things balanced at every level then I think they’ve been playing a different game than me for the last 10 or 15 years. This expansion is the first time they’ve actually shown interest in balancing broken things at low levels. It’s definitely been a nice change and a reason for hopefulness, but I think it’s a bit naive to be confident that they’ll fix everything.
Classes and group queues are far more likely to make games imbalanced than gear at most levels. I don’t think that necessarily means that twinks aren’t an issue though. A lot of people who play twinks roll the strongest specs. XP-off communities also create a lot more groups. People leveling will rarely have 4 other friends in the same bracket.
I think the gaps are close enough that it’s worth trying to make the best of the current situation, but it’s understandable that people would disagree. I’m not arguing for either side - I enjoyed twinks more when brackets were separate, but I don’t design the game. I just play it, and I stop if I’m not having fun. I learned a long time ago not to expect Blizzard to design the game the way I want them to.
But yeah, most BGs are fine. The problems are exaggerated because people complain too much on the forums, but they do exist. Even though a lot of posts are people looking for excuses why they’re losing instead of trying to figure out what they could do better, there are games and situations where twinks cause issues.
https://imgur.com/a/2WLLESO Here is all my BGs up until now, minus one from the beginning. More landslides than I remember, but you can just look up the names and see how they gear. Also, don’t judge! I’m admittedly a pretty bad pvper so not the best for this and probably held my own team back on a few of these, and carried on a few All in all, it’s been a pretty fun trip.
I get what you’re saying but you level through so quickly. I have done 53 BGs and am level 45, that’s more than one level per BG, since you can’t start until level 10. It could start slowing down, but I imagine those who do quests and dungeons in between BG queues might get 1 or 2 BGs in per bracket.
Never once have I claimed that I speak for all twinks! I’ve implied that I believe I have enough credibility in the twink community to speak on this matter!
I want competitive games. I want the incentive for twinks to actually communicate and organize more events. There is literally no fun whatsoever in farming levelers. But to each their own and thanks for sharing!
Yeah, hilarious how they spun things over on XPOff. Some of the most outright obnoxious sorts of people trying to attack you for a lack of civility. What a laugh. They paint it as though you spent the whole post talking about yourself for one mention, yet refuse to actually discuss what you’ve actually said at length.
I still don’t understand the phenomenon about them raging so badly when you even HINT about taking levelers away. The OP was very articulate which is a nice change of pace from the supports who frequent this place and it shows that there are good, honest people on the other side of the spectrum.
If you’ve got a crew of decent and reasonable folks over there that are active twinks, I’d actually heavily consider giving it a shot again. It’s been so long, but I could use a change of pace.
Jwl has cultivated a “persona” where he acts like an idiot. Constantly posting with a weird RP gimmick about how great you are affects how people see everything you say. Similar to Greyhide making up stories, or Willy calling everyone who disagrees with him the same person. People will give your arguments less credit if you constantly say stupid things.
Just shouting this out - Juga had no involvement or vested interest whatsoever in this debate. Instead of just hopping on one side of the forum argument train, she actually started leveling a character in BGs to form her own opinion. And people still try to invalidate her experience just because she doesn’t agree with them.
Your views on leveling Bgs are skewed by you being a twink and running premades in Bgs. Again start a new character and put on some heirlooms and try it out for yourself. You get a better view of it that way.
You’re not likely to get that from the opposed here. It’s generally always the same insults, flawed logic and just about any logical fallacy you can think of. It’s a shame because (as I’ve mentioned), it gives people the wrong impression about the playstyle. Thank you for showing genuine honesty and that there are good people on that side of the spectrum.
No, because the source itself isn’t credible. Slight difference, my friend.
However true that is (and I truly have no clue if it is as I only drop in on occasion), my point in mentioning this is that it’s obvious the post was valid and worth talking about, yet the fixation is on damning his appeal to credibility. That can be argued just as much as whether his wording was fair, but does it serve a purpose? It seems clear his points are being dismissed here with misdirection.
I just find it telling that’s what’s being addressed rather than the 95%+ of his post actual relevant to the topic. On the hub of twinking, no less.
I dont run premades lol. I queue 2 mans at most. As I earlier stated in this thread, BOA geared players can put up fights vs. twinks. Get a better argument please!
