One of the most important topics I never see being discussed - why don’t people just PvP for fun?
Why does it have to be honor per hour? Which by the way, was NEVER a term in Vanilla.
I hate to break it to you all you rankers being offended by every post, but the gear isn’t THAT good. There’s already very comparable rewards from just BWL. And this whole “BiS” thing - I’m not sure months of ranking under this abusive and laughable system merits your desire for a few extra strength points.
PvP is a MINI GAME in Classic - there is no disputing that. So why can’t you give us our fun mini game?
Either separate solo/small queues and groups of 5+, or add a skirmish similar to arenas. Let me just play the damn game because as of right now PvP is NOT working as intended and NOT playable. Just about every single pug vs premade has no PvP occurring which will not change.
If Classic has shown me anything about this toxic reddit BiS/min/max mentaility is that if you let them abuse a system for their own gain (Lotus spawns, AV premades) then they will
PVPing for fun is what the non-60 brackets are for.
Blizzard recognized that this PVP honor system is garbage – that’s why it didn’t continue into TBC. However, they’re not going to change it for Classic (“U THINK U DO BUT U DONT”).
The second part of your quote is the answer to the first. Because of the broken honor system even if you don’t care about honor, you will face premades that only care about honor.
Sadly they won’t make any changes, just have to wait for arenas. A simple skirmish mode that doesn’t offer any rep or honor would eliminate so many fraudulent premaders who statpad against pugs looking for casual pvp.
Classic AV was some of the most fun times I had in PvP. Can’t stand the smaller BG’s or Arena. Sadly, Alliance doesn’t even try in AV resulting in 2+ hour queue times for Horde. Ah well, maybe Classic Wrath Wintergrasp will be fun in three or four years.
Some of us do PVP for fun, in open world, in BG teams as best we can (a lot harder to do) etc.
I think people of this mindset are just few and far between, and we’re spread out across a lot of different servers so it compounds on the issue.
Kind of wish there had been a call for a PVP server similar to how there was a call for RPPVP servers that was honorless, or something along those lines. Not sure what the solution there is - it’s a lot more complicated than the RPPVP thing for sure.
The problem isn’t so much “these people are just playing for fun” and “these people are playing for rank”, the problem is that the systems in place force both of these mindsets to overlap a lot.
If you’re in a raid or a guild that raids and you end up not liking how they do things, you can choose to leave and join a guild more in line with your personal goals.
You can’t do that with when trying to PvP in BGs.
The other problem is the honor system in vanilla rewarded time over effort. Put in the time you get the rewards, which is why premades have no interest in fighting other premades. It’s compelling in a system like RBGs where you actually WANT to compete against other teams. In Classic there is literally no incentive for a premade to want to fight against another premade.
It is fun to be able to rely on my team to keep me alive so I can keep them alive. It is fun to join a battleground knowing that my team has a decent composition full of competent players who want to win.
It is not fun to get instantly focused down in every team fight while my teammates all attack different targets or afk in the flag room for their participation mark.
The majority of games I play are against other premades, and it is fun to play against other teams with decent compositions full of competent players who want to win.
It is way easier to make a premade than it is to get a dungeon group going these days, and not everyone wants to grind 12+ hours a day. It’s fine to step out after a few games, because there are always other people willing to replace you. I don’t know why anyone who wants to actually have fun in pvp wouldn’t make the minimal effort required to remove the unfun randomness of solo queues.
