Playing in Classic WotLK and just trying to level my character with the little time I have in between my newborns naps and for some dumb reason other players are able to attack me.
- PVP disabled
- Not attacked another player who is pvp enabled
- Not Enter a PVP zone
With the help of an addon, I occasionally find out that I am PVP enabled even though my current settings are PVP disabled. What gives?
Currently playing on Old Blanchy (US) a PVE realm.

Type /pvp
if a timer appears, find a safe place to wait it out.
Keep in mind, no realm is considered PVP free. There are zones and quests that still can put one’s character into a PVP state. As will flagging yourself for PVP by attacking someone else flagged as PVP.

The issue here is I wasn’t in a pvp enabled area nor a quest that would have flagged me for pvp. I was maybe 10ish quest into Howling Fjord. I was on the side of the road trying to figure out what I did wrong with a quest and low and behold I get ganked by 2 Alliance (opposing) character.
Also typing /pvp flags you as pvp if you already have it disabled, just tested Ravenhawk’s comments so going to have to wait it out for 5min to be out of pvp again.

There are certain quests that automatically flag you for PvP in Wrath content. Grizzly Hills was the place with the most if memory serves correct.

If when they approached you, even if by accident you right clicked on them, then you’d be flagged.
Not saying that’s what happened, just saying that it’s possible.
But if you feel that there’s a bug, you’re welcome to post in the Classic Bug Report forum here:
Be especially careful around Fort Wildever, there are roaming guards around both factions city in the north point, they path quite aways from those forts, and can flag you even if you get too close. Seems to be especially as true now in Classic as it was when Wrath first released.

Will keep an eye out for this, may or may not be the case, but this seems like the most plausible cause which is sorta dumb.
