PvP Buying Guide

Wrath has a somewhat confusing array of PvP vendors and I recently had to show a friend where he could buy everything and which purchases to avoid. Thought it might be helpful for others that are just getting into the PvP grind.

First, there are a total of 6 currencies used to buy PvP goods (in order of easist to hardest to farm):
Honor (farmed in BGs and Wintergrasp)
Stonekeeper Shards (Farmed in dungeons)
Badges of Heroism (Farmed in dungeons)
Wintergrasp Marks (Only available from participating in WG)
Badges of Valor (Farmed in raids; 2 per day from the dungeon daily)
Arena Points (Once per reset boon if you did 10 arena games; also 25 points per day for doing the daily BG quest and another 25 for doing a random BG or Call To Arms BG)

There are also 3 different sets of PvP gear, thought the first two are not fully fleshed out:
Savage Glad Gear (ilvl 200 blues; Set armor and Ranged slot available)
Hateful Glad Gear (ilvl 200 epics; Set armor, Non-set armor, and Ranged slot available)
Deadly Glad Gear (ilvl 213 epics; all slots available)

There are a total of 11 vendors selling PvP goods spreadout among 4 different places:

4 vendors in Org/SW
The first vendor sells Deadly Non-set armor (boots, bracer, belt, jewelery, cloak). These items only cost honor so they are a good buy. However; the boots and belt both require an arena rating so you may not be able to buy those yet.

The second vendor sells Hateful Non-set armor pieces. You can skip over the Neck, Cloak, and Bracers from this vendor. No reason to buy them when you can just spend a bit more honor for the Deadly versions. The Hateful ring is a good buy as you you can equip 2 rings, so you can pair the ring with the deadly one. The Hateful Boots and Belt might be good buys for you if you have spare honor and don’t have the arena rating for the Deadly versions.

The third vendor sells Savage Glad Set pieces (helm, shoulder, chest, legs, gloves). Again, these cost only honor to purchase. While there is probably a good argument that these may be a downgrade from just using epic PvE gear, I found one piece to be a good buy in order to activate my 2-piece and then 4-piece PvP set bonuses early. But, ultimately, anything you buy from this vendor will be replaced.

The fourth vendor in Org/SW is kind of sneaky and not that useful. It is the vendor that sells the old level 60 PvP tabards and old level 60 PvP mana/health pots. For some reason, they added one new, level 80 item to this vendor. It is a shoulder enchant that gives Stam and Resilience. It costs 10k honor. Ironically, I think this is most used by PvE tanks.

2 vendors in your faction area of Dalaran (selling PvP Set armor pieces for PvE badges)

Most of you are probably already familiar with these vendors. They are just the normal Badge of Heroism and Badge of Valor vendors; however, if you scroll to their last page, you will see that they sell the Savage Glad and Hateful Glad Set pieces.

I would not suggest buying the Savage pieces with Badges of Heroism. Honor is so much easier to grind.

On the other hand, you may find yourself with excess Badges of Valor if you have been doing your daily dungeon and clearing both 10 and 25 raids each week. The Hateful Set pieces from the Badge of Valor vendor are a good buy in that case as the only other way to get this gear costs a good amount of Arena points.

Specifically, the Hateful Shoulders are probably the best buy if you are spending Valor Badges. In order to buy Hateful Shoulders from the sewer vendor, you need a rating of 1350. The Badge of Valor vendor sells the same shoulders but has no such rating restriction and a relatively cheap cost of 30 badges.

3 vendors in the sewers of Dalaran

The first vendor is the Deadly Glad vendor. He sells Deadly Set pieces as well as Deadly 2H, MH, OH, and Ranged slot items. These are all obviously best buys, the problem is that they cost a lot of Arena points and EVERYTHING on this vendor requires an arena rating. Lowest rated piece is the Gloves which require 1400 rating.

The second vendor has Hateful Set Pieces along with Hateful Ranged slot (wand, relic, and thrown…sorry hunters). All of this gear costs a mix of Honor and Arena points. I would say that the Chest, Legs, and Gloves are all good buys. The shoulders are the only armor piece that require a rating, so you can get those easier from the Valor Badge vendor as mentioned above. The helm is a bad buy simply because there is a Hateful-equivelent helm available for Wintergrasp marks. Prio your arena points on Chest, Legs, and Gloves.

The ranged slot items are a good buy. They have an arena rating requirement of 1200 which isn’t bad compared to the 1800 needed for the Deadly versions.

The thrid vendor in the sewers sells Savage Glad Set pieces and Ranged slot items. Do not buy armor pieces from this vendor. They are all bad buys. He will charge you Honor AND Arena points for this gear while the vendor in Org/SW only charges honor. This is a waste of Arena points.

YMMV on the Ranged slot items from this vendor. They do cost a tad of Arena points, but they don’t require a rating.

2 vendors in Wintergrasp

The first vendor sells a lot of stuff.

If you are somehow low on honor, you can buy Wintergrasp Commendations for either 3 Wintergrasp Marks or 30 Stonekeepers Shards. Each commendation gives you 2000 honor on use. Commendations are a bad buy if you are using them on your main toon. Their main function is that they are bind-on-account, so when your main has absolutely nothing to buy, he can help your alts gear up.

The vendor also sells PvP oriented Shoulder and Head enchants in exchange for Stonekeeper Shards. These enchants are similar in power level to the Sons of Hodir and Faction rep enchants, but swap out crit for resilience. Good buy if you are stacking resilience.

Finally, this vendor also sells the following gear for Wintergrasp marks:
ilvl 200 epic boots for 15 marks (Bad buy - just buy the hateful boots in Org/SW for honor)
ilvl 200 epic helm for 40 marks (Good buy - saves you Arena points compared to Hateful)
ilvl 200 trinket for 25 marks. It has static resilience and either an Attack Power or Spell Power burst proc (YMMV on this purchase)
