PvP - Bring back Consecration as its own spell for ret paladins

As a pvp ret, I need consecration for multiple reasons…

I.E. at the start of an arena match: In previous seasons when a stealthy ran past me, or when I preemptively thought they were going to open; I would pop consecration and get them out a good portion of the time, now I must wait until they choose to open. Before the start fights I now only have Wake of Ashes to get the stealthers out, and It feels bad as it only works in a cone directly in front of me so it is not as affective. In a fight when a night elf Shadowmelds directly infront of me, I must use Divine Storm or Wake of Ashes, and if Wake is on cool down or I don’t have the holy power for Divine Storm, again I must wait until they choose to pop out. The pvp talent Hallowed Ground, the one that allows consecration to cleanse slows off myself and my party, is completely pointless if I can’t even get to the target where the Blade of Justice is spawning the consecration. Previously when a mage, sham or druid was spam rooting, and freedom spell stealing, I had some leeway with that talent. Now I just get knocked back and spam rooted while my healer’s cleanse is on cd or they are stuck behind a pillar stunned.

Previously there was a talent that allowed one to choose whether they wanted to allow consecration to be attached to Blade of Justice, now there is no such choice. Furthermore there is not even a tool tip that states for when you choose Blade of Justice at the start of your Ret tree will your consecration will be attached to it.

My solution is to add an option at the start of the ret tree within the Blade of Justice talent. One that is normal Blade of Justice with no Consecration added. The other is with the Consecration added and since it would be at the start of the ret tree everyone wins.

I understand that this decision was added to reduce the globals needed for a PvErs rotation but a lot of us PvPers actually need consecration as its own spell. Does anyone else have any other suggestions to bring consecration as its own spell for rets as every other paladin spec has it?

Pass.

Having one extra talent free in the ret tree is a blast. And knowing I will have an area snare in my basic rotation makes it easier to stick to my foes.

That’s why I said make it a pick 1 talent at the start of the ret tree. It changes to the Blade of Justice Consecration at the first talent into the ret tree, so if you make that talent a pick 1 - between the normal blade of justice or the blade of justice with consecration, you would NOT lose a talent point.

And I took a look at your achievements… your highest rating was combatant at the end of Dragonflight with over 100 arena matches played. Without coming off as dogmatic here, as I know that will not due my cause anygood… but with that said, I’m not sure you even know your priority rotation.

That… wouldn’t end well.

It would be a trap for new players for sure.

There is literally no trap whatsoever. “New players” can pick the current module of the talent Blade of Justice, while the “more experienced players” who like Consecration as its own spell; as it is in every other paladin spec can choose such. I’m not sure what your argument is heading toward…

It is a win-win scenario. You lose nothing.

There is. Your choosing a talent that does 2 skills in one GCD, or 2 skills using 2 GCD’s with nothing to gain from choosing it. For new players, they could be lead into a confusing situation where they think seperating the skills would mean more damage with normal game logic, since you know, most games rewards for using multiple skills for damage, this game ain’t it.

That is a strawman argument. “Certain players wouldn’t understand it… There is a group of people out there that won’t benefit from it, hence we should make it not available to anyone. We need to make the game easier while taking away basic mechanics from a class.” Thinking coulda, woulda, shoulda, doesn’t help anyone; even the “new players” that you’re basing your entire argument around.

All I am asking for is a spell that has been in the paladin spell book for over 20 years now. The real question here is why are you so concerned with what pvpers are asking for if you don’t even push rating? Then defending your flawed argument around “new players” not understanding?

Ok, list me one game that don’t reward you for having more skills and properly rewarding the player in the form of damage. This game don’t do that. So tell me, how is this a “strawman’s arguement”?

The first portion of the tree is meant for the needed skills for the new player to dip their toes in the game and slowly understand the core mechanics of their spec. What your suggesting is the opposite.

There is plenty of talents in the later parts of the class tree and spec tree that fills this part out. The first part of the tree is not meant to be a “choice” per say.

This isn’t a woulda, it is a it will.

consecration had been removed from the ret’s part of the book several times.

Why are you concerned in putting something so high up in the tree to interfere with a new players learning curve? And pvp is more then just grinding a rating.

read the above. The intent of the first part of the tree is for new players to learn the class mechanics.

I hear your plea… Let us hope blizzard hears it. This seems to be the best solution.

Ahh yes… World of Environmentcraft.

Don’t even bother replying to the Draenei… he’s missing your argument entirely and straw manning it.

By this logic Blizzard should remove PvP talents as it only allows you to pick 3, while there are 10 to choose from. It might make it hard for new players as some PvP talents allow set ups for other skills to do more damage. By this logic we should remove Execution Sentence and Final Reckoning as it is 2 global cooldowns that increase damage over time for an extended period. MATTER OF FACT… Give me a perma wings buff that way I won’t have to hit Avenging Wrath or Crusade or Wake of Ashes in order to get my wings.

By this logic Blizzard should just remove the mmr system. Matter of fact, just remove the rated system entirely. Not only for pvp but for pve as well. Since doing dungeons at the later/higher end is more than just grinding out mythic keys and rating, right? Right…?

If you think the intent of a talents tree is for new players to learn class mechanics, do I have some news for you… The point of a talent tree is for each level to act is if you gain some sort of power no matter how miniscule that impact may be, as the previous talent trees since MoP did not suffice this feeling as it did in Classic WoW. Class talents are not intended for learning how to play a class, at all.

Do you realize that you going around saying we should not allow something because of some new players learning curve is a complete merry chase?

No one is straw manning nothing.

There is better ways to deal with an issue then putting it in a place of learning.

There has been suggestions a spell book toggle which would work better then a talent in the tree.

And now your pushing the goal posts.

The early talents is for LOW LEVEL PLAYERS TO LEARN HOW TO PLAY THE CLASS.

Putting words in my mouth. There is more to pvp then just mmr systems. But also no one ever said it should be removed.

That is literally blizzards own stated intent in DF on the first level of the tree. otherwise the skills there would be automatically learned without being talents.

You don’t.
Consecration was and still is a terrible spell to press.
It was always a filler spell at best.

The only reason it was “good” in PVP is because Blizz attached an effect to it that should have been a standalone spell to begin with.

Blizzard stated in DF that the reason for the new talent system was for players to feel rewarded for each level as in classic wow. They said in an interview that the new talent system is based off the old Classic WoW talent system. If you are referring to the 10 minutes per level players are spending as a educational way to learn to play… is a stretch.

To revolve the entire game around less than 5% of the populous’ “learning” curve is a bad way of game design and management.

How many people play PVP again?

You don’t even PvP so why do you care? Your highest rating is 1500.

Allowing a pick 1 talent; in no way would affect you or the new players you are so heavily trying to defend.

At this point it is just weird…

I care because that would change the Ret tree for the worst, for everyone.

How would changing 1 talent to a pick 1 talent between Blade of justice with Consecration or a Blade of Justice without Consecration, change the ret tree for the worst? It changes ABSOLUTELY nothing, other than some fictitious idea that it would affect new players.

What a joke.

The first talent of the tree is suppose to set the tone for the entire rest.

There’s a SINGLE spec who does a choice at this position and its a MEANINGFUL one (elemental shaman).

You’re proposing to shoehorn a choice solely aimed at PVP on the first node as a “cheated” 4th PVP talent.

It’s backward, it’s unsophisticated, it would look and feel weird.

Do better, its a bad suggestion.

You can be imaginative, it doesn’t have to be something involving consecration to help you out.

Way to go only putting a portion of that interview here!

They also stated they did not want to design it in the same fashion as the old one.

Do you even play games outside of WoW?
