In chess as you all know two people are given the exact same pieces and the skill of the player decides the outcome. PvP in wow is not like that or any other balanced FPS Or strat game. It was a side project to complement and rpg. If a computer ran a simulator that ran a perfect game played by two classes there would be not one tie between any classes in any different spec mode. Modern games do run an algorithm and simulations to completely balance a game at a 50/50 clip per individual player. For example the basic pistol in Battlefield with 3 hits will down the enemy in the exact time as a machine gun with 10 hits if struck in the same location of the target. WOW does not and cannot do that short of changing the system to a single class with all the same abilities. That I don’t think is what most pvp players desire. If you are looking for a balanced game experience wow is not it. If you are looking for some fun and unique challenges it can be a lot of fun. It does no good to complain about a PvP system that can never be balanced. If you are a mediocre player like me who enjoys a few games, go with it. Don’t rage quit and complain about its lack of fairness, because guess what it isn’t. Those who are elite PvP players will tell you the same thing. But they are able to mitigate some of the imbalance through tactics and communication and position. Just enjoy it and if you don’t just don’t play it.
Someone help, a wall fell on me.
It’s so funny how people come to a game with different classes, identify that the classes are indeed different, and think it’s unintended and something to be corrected. Similar thing with gear.

Do you think every champion in league has a perfect 50\50 matchup? In character based games having perfect balance is impossible. Some characters will always have better matchups into other characters. Does it mean it is impossible for those characters to win in those matchups? No, you can usually still outplay and win in harder matchups. As long as every character has nearly a 50-50 w/l everything fine. Around 48 and 52 should be the spectrum. The problem is when some character are overtuned and gets a higher w/l than that there should be balance.
Also, the second a champ basically goes over 53% w/l, you can expect nerfs in league
Yup that’s what happens when you actually have a team dedicated to balance. Must be nice ![]()
Absolutely! as I stated elite players mitigate that advantage of certain mismatches through exceptional game play and an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of their class but also their teammates pushing the numbers closer. It is very satisfying to win a mismatch, I think we can all agree to that.
You have a serious lack of understanding of what you’re saying.
This post was not directed to veteran players such as yourself who understand the concept. Rather the rise in player complaints for perfect balance from perhaps newer players. It was not meant to be a deep revelation.
Even in chess the one that goes first can dictate who wins. This isn’t math. Life doesn’t care about an equal playing field.
I work in game development as a career and I would argue that working on the algorithms I do understand quite a bit, in the majority of games produced, 85 percent require throughout their run no correction to coding to balance. But your opinion is ok to have. WOW is unique in its long run, constant updates and changing specs. This in no way meant to disregard the skill of the elite players but to reinforce the skill it takes for them to attain that level.
Its kinda like Pokemon
