I’m singling out Redbud here because their post is the last I’ve seen to make this argument, but there are many others, and it’s baffling.
Original-Classic launched with 46 PvE servers (five were RP) and 44 PvP servers (RP-PVP was a concept that came later).
Now, there are vastly more PvP servers than PvE servers, including two RP-PvP servers to one RP server.
I wondered why the change, but with every thread I see that amounts to, “Blizzard, why aren’t you doing anything to stop these other P from V’ing me!” it seems increasingly that it’s not actually about wanting the mechanical difference of a PvP server (the forced flags), but about feeling like you’re supposed to want the mechanical difference.
“I am getting/I will get camped all the time and that’s not fun!” is an argument I would, instinctively, sympathize with a great deal, were it not for the fact that the only function of a PvP server, is to be a server where forced PvP happens; the getting camped is entirely voluntary. If you don’t want to get camped, and you also don’t particularly want to camp other people, play on a PvE server.
If you don’t want to be camped, but you really want to camp other people and you’re distressed Blizzard isn’t loading the dice in your favor, then…look at your life, look at your choices.
People have been complaining about being ganked for 15 years. It’s never going to stop. Don’t waste too much time on it. People are in full control of their enjoyment of the game.
It would be nice if they allowed paid PVP to PVE servers. As a brand new player I was advised that PVP servers were the way to go. That was bad advice. I haven’t had any good PVP experiences, just senseless ganking.
The thing I enjoy most about Vanilla is PvP, and I rolled on a PvE server. Why? Because real, actual PvP still happens on PvE servers. Also, because battlegrounds are 1,000% more important to me than wPvP. I have no desire to deal with ganking. And if I really want to get ganked, I still can. By flagging myself.
Almost certain, if we believe what Blizzard has said, paid transfers will happen but probably not until mid 2020 if I were to guess. Like the druid said I’d start on a new server now, find a good one and start your alt. If you’re looking for a chill, casual experience I’d even suggest trying Bloodsail Buccaneers, rp server. There’s still a lot of great players on rp servers it’s just a lot less people named “Imleet” or “Udienow”.
I started on a PvP server in Vanilla and ended up transferring to an RP server and haven’t looked back. Call me what you will; I’m content to sit safely on the riverbank fishing or going through STV without worry about getting camped. I play to relax, not get an ulcer worrying about how other players choose to behave.
I don’t think the issue of “needing to want to PvP” is a Blizz thing. I think it’s a result of the years of private server culture promoting PvP servers as the only “real” way to play and if you don’t you’re some sort of worthless scrub who’s not fit to play the game. PvP servers don’t do anything but bring out the worst in people simply because “Blizz didn’t say not to” culture feeds on itself. I’ll take my PvP im Battlegrounds and avoid the jerks, thank you.
This happened to my entire guild in Vanilla. The founders misunderstood what it was actually going to be like and at the time had no clue BGs would even be a thing. By the time they realized the truth of the situation it was too late.
A Horde that is on a pve server and doesnt like to pvp.
Does not compute
On another note pve servers are the way to go if you just want some peace of mind and actually get stuff done. That element of danger that people like is something I don’t need. My time is already limited to maybe 2 hrs during the week and a bit more on weekend. I dont want to have to deal with corpse camping or logging onto another guy just to play the game.
Don’t get me wrong; I -LOVE- PvP, but only in battlegrounds. World “PvP” cough isn’t for me. As for being Horde, well I like Shamans and being anything but a Forsaken as a Warlock just doesn’t sit right with me. Besides, I’d rather be hunched over and janky than run like I’ve got the Staff of Jordan keistered.
Classic is going to be around for a long time. There’s a ton of people leveling either from just starting, rerolling or alts. If you start over on a different server, you won’t be sorry. I promise.
