Once i accepted the idea that they use a large bag to pull random stuff out lottery style and nerf it , it all started to make sense.
On another note, I also think it’s absurd that warlock talents are so ambiguous in their wording. I understand there being a deliberate and concerted effort to try and allow players to experiment with talents, but it’s so bad that even newer players can’t tell which talent is better because they have no idea how certain talents function. Somebody starting warlock can ask an experienced warlock “hey, how does this incinerate talent that proc rifts work?” and then the experienced warlock (let alone Theorycrafters at this rate) will literally say “I have no idea, but it sucks”.
Could we have some more clarity on the types of tooltips we are giving players? It seems that some of these talents intentionally obfuscate their proc rates and how they work unless you spend hours poring over log data to figure out how certain proc rates work. It’s not fun at all in an rpg game to not know how a talent works in comparison to another.
Still wondering if the Hellcaller “nurf” was intentional or not.
What’s that you say? Destruction is the worst spec in the raid even before 90% of people make it to its worst-performing fights (back 4 bosses in the raid)?
Who could’ve seen this coming!!
/s
In reality, buffing destruction by 10% (aura buff) would still make this spec below average in the raid. It’s kind of incredible at this point that even with an entire talent rework, that destruction continues to have the same problems it’s always had with its kit: Extremely weak in movement and literally no burst aoe damage compared to any other spec in the game.
This is now the FOURTH expansion in a row that destruction will have to be buffed multiple times in the first tier and it is generally a terrible pick for anyone doing any mythic content.
I’m speechless.
Yeah, Destro really does suffer from legacy class design (read old and imobile) and its really hard to see what the benefit is supposed to be in the context of modern encounter design. IDK, maybe its just a lack of passion for Destro or there is some dev doctrine tbat it is to be the ur-turret spec?
In any case, its not like they would have to make whole new tools to fix Destro. CDF and DR are servicable and could be iterated on to fill mobility and burst AoE niches if iterated on sufficiently (as an example).
- Destruction
All ability damage increased by 6%.
Dimensional Rift damage increased by 40%.
Channel Demonfire damage increased by 40%.
More buffs coming to Destruction as expected. Looks like they are trying to make Dimensional Rift a competitive pick for movement heavy fights. At the same time, they buffed Channel Demonfire again but still have not made it castable on the move. Why not bake that effect into one of the talents? We spend 3 points on CDF just to make it worth casting, and it’s still rendered useless with any movement mechanic.
I also think the 25% cleave talent for Rift should be baseline at this point, and the capstone replaced with the Flame Rift talent (like it was for a short time in the Beta). Dimension Ripper should proc off Immolates like the tier bonus from Amirdrassil to give Destruction more options to proc it in multi-target fights.
Oh, and please fix Dimensional Rift so it benefits from Mastery. There’s really no reason why it should be counted as a summon and not a spell, plus this avoids anti-synergy with the Chaos Incarnate talent if players want to pick both.
I know it’s long gone now, but I really wish we had Soul Shape back. I know it wasn’t particularly thematic but holy hell I would kill for some big mobility with a blink vs turbo burning my health pool to run a little faster.
I’m a Destro main, and I’m hurting so bad in Raid. I hope this upcoming 6% dmg buff on Tuesday helps. I just want my spec to be viable. I don’t want to learn a new spec just to be able to play my class effectively. I look like an absolute idiot to non Warlock players because I do significantly less DPS than everyone else, despite me having my rotation and everything down pat. I will say it still performs fairly well in AoE, it’s just single target has fallen off so much since the end of Dragonflight.
Agreed, can’t tell you how many times I’ve died from just trying to move with a group in Raid while using Burning Rush. I just seem so stupid, why do I have to hurt myself to run faster when Druids, Shamans, and others don’t?
I haven’t looked here in a while. I was too busy enjoying the content!
Destro looks significantly better now, but it still has fundamental flaws, particularly around its aoe profile (it does great damage, but gameplay-wise), which makes it unintuitive for the vast majority of players.
Our movement situation has improved with Rift being able to be a flex point as a global on-the-move now. I think the Chaos Bolt rift needs to be buffed up to compete with the other rifts, unless I’m completely mistaken, that rift in particular is undertuned.
I’d also like to see the rift talent be comprehensible (as in understand what it does and proc rate) and be buffed at some point to make it useable.
Good job so far!
I decided to do destro last night when we cleared normal and half of heroic.
It feels a bit better, but according to aggregate data it still looks weak and I def had to work really hard for the parses I and dmg i did.
We’re at least sightly above fire tier at least now.
That’s the choice you made when you turned to the power of fel buddy.
For normal, yes.
However, I can confidently say that destro is an above-average spec now. I would likely place it in the top 10 specs, for raiding.
It also has a very solid contribution and play-rate in mythic at the moment.
As the m+ season continues, it will likely see destro drop, but it’s also a very solid pick for people playing mythic+, and definitely not bottom end.
I been running destro since Tuesday and loving it.
Dont think people have caught on that it’s very much back.
So is Destro beating Affliction and Demo now?
honestly they should just remove the chaosbolt from the rift. its the stinky fart that no one wants in a crowded elevator. Replace it with summoning a doom guard or the Ritual of ruin demon for a few seconds. or just dont have it. either works for me.
I wouldn’t mind taling it for a spin, what do you think is better for m+, diabolist or hellcaller?
I like diabolist for the procs based play. Not a huge fan of dots in my boom specs
At first I preferred hellcaller for general gameplay but over time my preference has strongly shifted towards diabolist too.
The main thing I like about destruction compared to the other two specs is how plug and play it feels. By that I mean Affliction and Demo feels like their base kits are a skeleton that requires specific things from their talent tree to function properly.
Conversly Destruction feels like it gets most of it’s power from it’s base kit and it’s talents just augment that kit. Diabolist really flows into destruction in the same way it’s talent tree does, augmenting the base kit, rather than trying to stitch new parts on like hellcaller does.
I run diabolist but may mess with hellcaller in higher keys.
Both play well, but diabolist with shadowburn and all the procs is just too much fun. Movement isnt too bad in fights, damage numbers are huge.
Try it out, dont forget to max shadowburn out.
