I am loving my dagger rogue in classic. Just hit level 10, and have no idea which spec to go lol. I was thinking assassin. I don’t plan on pvping as I’m a PVE player.
So here I am asking all you experienced rogues. Have got pretty decent at gouge + Back Stab. I’ve looked at the sub tree, looks good too. Just can’t decide. Please give me some incite on the best direction. I don’t plan on using swords at all. Thanks again!
for PVE combat daggers is going to give you the best dps all the way through raiding. They say Seal Fate assassination outpaces combat once you get over 30% crit, but I may play with assassination at some point before I hit that since I always loved that spec back in the day. Sub has some fun tricks but is mostly pvp centered.
Combat daggers for sure. Although your not realistically going to just have the luxury to be dagger your entire leveling process. Sometimes just gotta take a good upgrade when it comes. Unless you are like a masochist and don’t care

There are so many great swords for leveling and the combat swords spec is so strong I just don’t understand wanting to use daggers for leveling but to each his own.

I can only assume its the thematic of it. I know I personally do like swords but I’m always using swords on and off. Using a dagger for a change of pace on a class that its viable just seems fun to me and something I’ve been looking into as well.
I plan on running a pvp build. But someone here stated seal fate runs circles around a certain crit %. Sub is great for pvp daggers too.
Don’t level as daggers. Spare yourself the pain.

Or just focus dagger for MH, and OH is whatever is best available. Unless its an aesthetic thing, then you do you

You’re lvl10 right now, so go with the best weapons you can get ahold of. The tried and true combat swords is best for leveling since you don’t have to worry about positioning for backstab. At lvl60, get some good daggers and go combat daggers.
You roll combat swords until 60 otherwise you hate life because you can’t get behind anything to back stab solo leveling and end up re-rolling entirely.
Having leveled back through classic now, I have to disagree. I think there were just as many great daggers as swords going through the levels. SFK, BFD, Gnomer, SM (Quest and drop), ZF, Mara, ST (quest), BRD, and DM all have really good daggers for their level ranges.
Starting out:
Once you have ~30% Crit:
If Horde, take 3 points out of Improved Poisons for 3/3 Improved Eviscerate as you won’t have a poison on your main-hand when a Shaman is providing you with Windfury Totem.
Subtlety is a terrible spec for PvE; it’s a PvP tree. Do not go any deeper than 5/5 Opportunity.

Careful you don’t get your MC daggers sent to a hunter like that other thread

Wait! I JUST finished leveling from 1-60 with a hybrid dagger build strictly by solo grinding. (I did class quests, attunement quests, and only did dungeons when I hit 58)
I have soooooo much info to give you, places to kill, dagger upgrade progress from 1-60, spec that I made / used that was super fun.
I’m at work now. I will update this when I get on lunch and give you the details then.
The thing with swords is that you are taken care of through quest completions and don’t have to farm instances and hope someone doesn’t outroll you. I understand that daggers have their place but just feel like there is such a clear and much easier path to leveling swords.
Between pservers and Classic this will be my 5th rogue to hit 60 in vanilla and though I’ve changed things here and there the path through swords is the easiest, strongest and fastest way to level.
Not for leveling. For killing Horde or Alliance.
To each their own, I just don’t think it’s as hard to find daggers as people often say so it shouldn’t be a point of discouragement to someone who wants to level with daggers. I personally leveled as swords and honestly cant stand how boring it is. It may be easier but it certainly isn’t as fun for me.
I <3 my gnomes and was thinking about doing a gnome dagger rogue. I have never played a rogue and looking to gear him out. Can I dagger rogue for PvE and PVP?

Yes totally. Daggers technically outperform swords in all aspects. People just go swords because they’re easier to obtain.
21/9/21 PVP rogue.
cold blood and prep. improved gouge.
nasty back stabs and ambushes…
GG.
