And because that’s what the youtubers tell them to do.
Backstab and Ambush crits are delicious. I had a hard time swapping to swords but ultimately they won out. Daggers is still hella fun though especially when you have a tank to keep the mobs facing off you.
As to the OP Combat is the spec you want for leveling and raiding at least until you start getting really well geared then you can look at Sin. Sub is pretty much only for pvp.
Thank you all so much for the incite. Reason I want to use daggers is it feels more rogue like to me. That’s just me though. I like gouging, stepping through for a quick back stab, and as I come back I restart my slice n dice.
Going to go combat daggers. Level 14 so far. Thank you all again. Read every post.
By the way, does the speed of the daggers matter? Got a 2.0 in my main, 1.7 in my off hand. Thanks!
You generally want a slow MH and a fast offhand. The reason is because eviserate scales off the maximum base damage of your MH. So slow the weapon (generally) the higher that is. And fast offhand gets poisons off faster. I think backstab also benefits from slower Mh but I’m not 100% on that.
Happy hunting fam.
I always wanted to do a dagger/dagger poison spec.
For leveling daggers I found going sub (after 8 in combat for imp backstab, and /or precision points) felt way better than other build options.
You turn ambush into something worth using, imp sap, prep, and ghostly strike fits very nicely into the rotation as a mitigation tool /energy dump between your gouge cds.
As for end game pve I’ll say this much… Seal Fate only sims about 5-10% behind combat daggers for me and isn’t entirely garbage in pvp. That is in pre raid bis gear, and the gap would only close as your crit chance improves.
I will however add a disclaimer that I’ve yet to test the seal fate build in a mc run (that happens tonight) in order to compare the efficacy relative to what it sims at, but the combat daggers sim was quite accurate.
What would a sub leveling build look like if I may ask? Almost 16 now. Loving the gouge+Backstab.
At 16, you don’t really have the points for any dagger build, honestly.
Grab imp gouge and sinister strike with your first 5 points, then 3 into backstab.
From there you start getting more choices…
-
Remorseless attacks 2/2 then Opportunity 5/5 or just Opportunity 5/5
-
After getting opportunity, you need to decide where to focus your efforts… Precision (combat hit talent) is great, but so is pushing down the sub tree for imp. Ambush… you’ll have some choices where to spend points basically…
By 60, I’d expect the build to look similar but not identical to the standard dagger pvp build:
https://classic.wowhead.com/talent-calc/rogue/325000104-320305-05023313030012
^ Is what I’d end up at… if I was leveling daggers…
Alternatively, the “standard dagger pvp build” is
https://classic.wowhead.com/talent-calc/rogue/325000105-320302002-05024303030012
and you could just build towards that, particularly with the honor patch going live. I should be clear, however, that this is absolutely NOT a build you’re going to do well with in 60 dungeons, let alone raids. It’s basically only for leveling and/or pvp while leveling (and if you are planning on doing significant pvp while leveling, you’ll probably want the second build)
I had a raid geared rogue in vanilla, Seal fate is absolutely nuts when geared out in pvp. Combat daggers felt extremely slow in comparison and it is as far as CP generation goes, that’s a raid pve build if anything.
For leveling, you might as well go for cold blood if you are going daggers, but swords are the best to level with since there is no positional requirement to SS. You can go hemo as well to stunlock people from 100 to 0 easily.
I like having to position myself. Is that weird? I gouge, step through + Backstab. Use the 2 points for slice n dice. Until I get more abilities, that is what I’m doing. Hope it’s okay lol. Loving my rogue though. When am I able to move faster in stealth?
Each rank reduces the speed penalty. There’s also a talent in Subtlety.
Contrary to popular opinion, dagger rogues are actually quite good at leveling.
But it just isn’t the case until around level 30 or so.
I’m loving being a dagger rogue. Feels good to me. Only died a few times as I got cocky, and acted as if I was invincible while I should have stayed invisible lol. How soon should I go into Sub?
Under 42 you are favored to just hit eviscerate over using slice n dice.
I’d add, that even after 42, you probably won’t be using SnD outside of groups as you end up wasting considerable chunks of its duration waiting on energy while a mob is gouged.
I have noticed that Apocalypse. I’ve tested with SnD on, and Off. I seem to kill faster with it off. I just wait for my energy to build, gouge+Backstab.
S&D actually isn’t really useful to use while leveling, even as Combat Swords outside of chain grinding. Dagger autos are mediocre but your main damage comes from Ambush and Backstab, so no reason to S&D.
Plus a certain rank makes it actually good.
