Purchased wrong item

So I recently purchased by accident the conquest axe for my rouge (assassination). I put in a ticket to assist with either swapping the weapon axe for the dagger, or removing the item and having the currency refunded so I could purchase the correct weapon.

The first ticket I created was closed with a generic response that posted links that had nothing to do with what my request was. This took less than 24 hours for this response.

So I opened up a new ticket restating the issue, this took several days to get a response. I finally get a GM to respond to the ticket, telling me that they are unable to assist me with swapping the item or refunding currency to purchase the correct weapon. Here is some of the justification as to why I could not be assisted with this request.

"Regarding this inquiry, Game Masters are pretty hands off in situations like these in order to preserve the importance of player decision-making and choice. The in-game refund system is available and can help assist with the occasional regret/mistake, but we also believe players having decisions with different consequences in our games is important and fun.

However, if a Game Master assists by reversing those choices on-demand, it can potentially trivialize the gameplay, and maybe even give players unfair advantages. To this end, we are unable bypass the in-game systems to assist and refund the item here for you I’m sorry to say.

I know that your time is valuable, and I really don’t want you to have to go through this again. Moving forward, I would recommend always double-checking your important in-game purchases, and to keep in-mind the 2-hour refund timer (as long as the item hasn’t been equipped or upgraded) in case of mistakes. "

This was not a fun or meaningful choice it was a mistake, a mistake that results in two weeks of wasted progression. If GM’s are not able to help with a request like this, what do they assist with? The mistaken purchase of anything in game, seems like the exact issue that a GM should be able to assist with. Also as far as giving an unfair advantage, yeah the advantage goes to all the people that I play in Arena’s that did not purchase the wrong piece of gear and are crushing me because I am two weeks behind now in progression.

I am very disappointed in the customer service of this game. Someone please assist me with this.

I’m sorry you purchased the wrong item, really I am. But what you purchase is on you to pick the correct item. I believe there should have been a 2 hour timer for you to give it back for a refund to the vendor? Here’s Blizzard’s policy

There is a 2 hour timer that is pointless, because as soon as you equip the item the timer goes away. Do you know anyone that is going to purchase an item by mistake, and then not equip said item?

Well to be honest I believe I would have noticed it was an axe and not a dagger. Sorry.

I am sorry but they are not going to assist you with this. That is not the fault of the GM, that is the policy put in place by the Developers. They did explain to you why the policy exists.

Yes. People realize that they bought the wrong thing when looking at it then refund it for the proper item. There are warnings before you equip or enchant so that you have to take a second look and confirm it before you void the timer.

The game is set up to give you multiple opportunities to resolve the issue yourself before you commit to the decision to make it permanent. They warn you multiple times.

If you wish to make a suggestion that the Developers change policy and allow GMs to swap purchases, you are free to use the in-game suggestion tool or post on General Discussion where the Community Managers pass on feedback to the Devs.

This article might help cover what GMs can and can not do.

Neither here nor with a GM will end up with your suggestion reaching the right team.

It’s okay, we all make mistakes (myself included) and sometimes we have to live with those mistakes until we can correct them.

Thankfully, this is just a videogame and we can very quickly recover from such mistakes

Well, the GMs are not a path to suggest feedback at all, nor are the support forums. So posting here, or asking a GM to pass on a suggestion results in zero progress.

The in-game suggestion tool or the General Discussion forums at least gets it into a place where the proper people look for feedback. Now, will a Dev act on that? Maybe not, but at least you got to have your say.

Careful, then. FFXIV has a one-time per account - for lifetime - item restoration (for accidental deletion) or item refund (“I bought the wrong item”.) You get one restoration OR refund (and one only), forever.

As for problems that arise from known bugs, they don’t help there either. Don’t take my word for it; browse their support and bug forums. The proof is in the pudding.

IMO FFXIV places far more responsibility on the player to know what they’re doing before they click a thing and do this-and-that. Far, far more.

Just advising, as I play that game too. Their policies aren’t as loose as the general public thinks they are. Upon making a similar mistake in that game, you’d now need to decide if that item you bought in error is the one and only restoration / refund you ever want to request. Because if you do make the request, and then five xpacs and two thousand hours of gameplay later you accidentally buy, sell or delete the Super Excellent Dagger of Mega-Destruction, (or what have you) they won’t restore it for you.

I’m sure their GMs have discretion, of course, but that’s their policy.

Good luck.
