And then they turn around and try to sell it for hundreds of thousands of gold.
I miss personal loot more and more every single day. Losing a staff that was a big upgrade to a Shaman that had crafted weapons over 630 isn’t fun. Losing out on a healer trinket to a DPS who rolled as main spec healer just to take it and try to sell it for 200k.
Yeah removing personal loot has done nothing but made the community more toxic
It’s ruining raiding for sure. Why would I bother? Week after week I pug on a character and walk out with not a dang thing. Personal loot I always got 1-2 items if I full cleared. Useful? Different story, but got SOMETHING.
It’s always the over geared that somehow seem to roll the 100s.
At the very least if you have higher ilvl you shouldn’t be allowed to need. Same ilvl and after different stats? Fine. But higher? No.
I can remember an incident where a guy on my server ninja’d a weapon from Naxx (Turning Tide i think) after someone else won the actual roll, he was ostracized so badly that he eventually left the server, he couldn’t even join a group for VOA without people berating and kicking him lol
If the same thing happened today, it wouldn’t even rate a mention in trade chat.
Personal loot was absolutely in no way any different to what it is now, the only differences are that:
Now you get a chance to pass on an item
You can also roll greed/mog and get some mogs not for your class/spec
And that everyone can see your rolls
If anything, now it’s better due to how mogs work, you can get items that you normally would not be able to get. Even in DF I was rolling off spec stuff and getting mogs that I would have missed if it was personal loot, and that was in LFR, I would roll greed/mog and get some mogs for off spec.
And ever since loot has been a thing, prior to the changes, if the iLVL was lower than what you had equipped you could still trade it, that has never changed, people getting items and selling them have always been a thing.
You are just mad that now you get to see people rolling on items.
Just saying they could have changed their loot to healer/tank when personal loot was a thing.
Amazing trick - roll need on all and don’t look at loot rolls. Personal loot accomplished! If someone wants to sell their item they won a roll for, even better now you can get an item you otherwise would have had to wait another week for.
the loot that drops for PL actually drops for the classes that are there.
players have a far far better chance of getting at least 1 item per raid run versus the more likely occurrence of 0 or multiple pieces depending on luck and your ability to stack a run to be carried by players who cant roll on anything you want.
there is a higher impetus to stack a raid benefitting everyone in that raid so that more gear can get passed around.
Only reason they didn’t try and sell loot they got with personal loot is because openly cross-realm trading wasn’t a thing yet. otherwise you’d had people running stuff while overgeared and selling the loot they got.
Had this happen last week in a guild raid. We had to pick up a random, and the random was rolling/winning on gear then whispering people if they wanted to buy the gear. They were shortly removed from the raid.
Pre-personal loot, if you rolled need on something that you had no intention of using, you were considered the scum of the earth.
Post-personal loot, it’s just how everyone rolls by default. If the need button is lit up, you hit it.
I hate it. So much. Even in my current group, people roll need on everything with the intent of keeping the loot from pugs so they can trade it amongst themselves later (often ending up in the trash or on someone’s 3rd alt because no one actually needs it).
I understand that mathematically, the current system is effectively the same thing when it comes to the big picture stuff. But it’s a system that FEELS significantly worse, because it constantly feels like people are ripping you off instead of you just not getting lucky against the system.
And that’s because, frankly, they ARE. Doesn’t matter if it’s mathmetically the same, they ARE ripping you off by needing on everything the game lets them hit the button for when they have no intention to do anything but vendor or otherwise sell it (whether or not they want the appearance).
Going back to Need Before Greed is a failed experiment. The modern community can’t handle it responsibly and we need Personal Loot back.
I don’t care if it’s only the default for queued content and it’s only an option for premade content - it should at least exist.
Making changes to Transmog (such as having the transmog roll award the appearance to the winner but not the actual item – which still goes to the need roll winner) would help things, but not eliminate this mentality of just rolling need if the button is lit up. That’s here to stay. The community has moved beyond pretending to care about strangers.
almost every pug i got into df, everyone needs on everything and start selling them
so i did the same
100% blizzard fault, if they allow players to be selfish, they will be selfish, you cant fight against it, but join it, to make the situation even worse until someday blizzard change it
why ‘‘need’’ is always avaiable even if you have a better item? just make a exception for trinkets and done, half of the problems fixed just with this
Yeah, the mentality of the modern WoW audience has shifted extremely.
If someone pressed need on every item in a dungeon they got called out pretty quickly and eventually kicked if they didn’t stop. It was heavily frowned upon to roll on loot that wasn’t an upgrade.
Today a lot of people don’t bat an eye and participate in this rolling behaviour under the mantle of “I’m attending, so I’m obviously entitled to everything”.
