PTR Housing Test “Temporarily Delayed” Frustrations

Bringing this here because I doubt Blizz even knows their PTR forums exist.

As some of you may know, Monday at 11am we were supposed to have housing on the PTR until Thursday. Less than an hour before the testing was to begin Blizzard announced a “temporary delay”. A “temporary delay” sounds like a few hours at most. It’s been days and radio silence. This isn’t a delay, this is a postponement and Blizzard should address the issue as such.

Some of us have been waiting for housing for 20+ years, as it was originally planned for Vanilla. Giving us a PTR date and then snatching it away less than an hour before it starts is just flat out rude and disrespectful to the playerbase.

So, what’s the deal, Blizz? Is there going to be testing this weekend? Next week? Next month? Next year!?

Yeah I am frustrated too. Was really excited to try it out. I haven’t seen anything on it :frowning:

I mean, it’s a testing server not an “early access sneak peak preview” server.

They’re not under any obligation to give it to us. Clearly something went wrong with its launch, and presumably they’ll open it up once they fix it. It’s not like they’re holding it back out of spite or something.

No they’re not. All I’m asking for is more communication. They said temporary delay, it’s been 2 days. That’s not a temporary delay, so just tell us if they intend to have the servers up for the weekend, or if this “temporary delay” is more of a postponement.

Do you understand the reason they have PTR or Alpha/Beta test? It is NOT to pre-release the product for people to play. It is for the purpose of testing.

This means that if bugs have been reported, they don’t need people reporting the same bugs over and over. They fix those and then they can put it out for further testing.

That’s great.

I’m just asking for some communication on if it’ll be up this week or if they foresee it as more than a “temporary delay” as their update on Monday stated.

Could be they don’t know. It’s hard to tell how long it will take to fix bugs. It could be something simple but if it is something like a race condition or a memory leak it is almost impossible to tell how long it will take.

It’s sort of like if you lose your car keys and someone asks how long it will take you to find them. They may be under the couch cushions, the first place you look, or maybe the cat carried them off and dropped them behind the washing machine. You just don’t kinow.

What has that to do with the OP’s post?

They are asking for information. That appears to be it.

Please to be not using it as an opportunity to berate someone about the purposes of a PTR that we can’t even actually play for its purpose because…we don’t know why because they haven’t said anything!

“Due to unforeseen circumstances we have to postpone the 11.2.7 housing PTR testing until further notice. We will provide an update on when testing will begin at a later date.”

Took 30 seconds and I didn’t have to use AI.

I’m explaining why they are seeing the behavior that they are seeing.

How do you even access it once the public testing thing releases?

Those are not really unforeseen circumstances. The only reason you put out a test is for people to try it and report bugs. If that is happening then the test is doing exactly what it is suppose to do.

You said:

It was that I was responding to, and my comment stands. The OP asked about why it was announced for a timeframe, then we were told it was delayed and then…cricket…zilch.

So what if the OP and others are excited to try it out - isn’t trying something out the purpose of a PTR? Public Test Realm, means playing it to test. Whatever your desires might be, by playing it you are testing it.

And just make an announcement, fer gawdsakes. Postpone it, park it, delete it. Treat players with a modicum of courtesy.

From what I saw on Friday when the PTR was up briefly, there’s a new housing icon on the ui bar. When you open that page you can pick up the intro quest to housing and it will teleport you to the housing NPC at the neighbourhood portal in the SW or Orgrimmar portal rooms.

You don’t know why the testing didn’t happen, so I’m not sure why you’re pretending that you do.

It’s currently being tested in a closed alpha, PTR is public and doesn’t require Midnight pre-order to check out the housing stuff. They could have been putting it on the PTR to get a bigger pool to stress test the servers.

We don’t know what’s happening in regards to the state of the public 11.2.7 test servers

Will our house be saved once early access or will everything be reset?

No. Nothing from the PTR carries over to the live servers in terms of our characters.

Nothing leaves a PTR. Early access is a completely different thing which is months away.

tell that to some of the AFK sorts on Beta lol.
Last two Ive been in they werent testing squat half the time. Just yeah…getting a preview…which is fine as long as theyre actually doing the work they signed up to do.

From the original announcement of the test… “It’s important to note that this test is for an in-progress feature and we may either periodically take down this test or cancel it at any point in time as necessary.”

While an explanation would have been nice, I think it’s safe to assume there were too many issues on alpha, to allow a surge of players to test it on PTR. They JUST fixed the ability to steal other player houses lol.

I don’t even think I care about an explanation. Just say whether or not it’s going to be up anytime soon. Their choice of wording made it sound like a few hours, not days/weeks.

But that’s the kind of bug I want to play around with :dracthyr_hehe_animated:
