I just did
Iâm glad that worked for your Dedeyn. It may not work for all pre-paid cards depending on how theyâre set up and who is providing the service. This is why it is called out as a âCommon issues for failed payments with pre-paid cardsâ.
Yes it never used to work for all prepaid credit cards. Mastercard is the one I always had to use (out of the ones I tried - Visa wouldnât work). But using this gives people an alternative way to pay if they donât have a credit card.
It isnât just blizzard that will accept pre paid for subscriptions, I pay my streaming services with prepaid as well. I do end up having to re-input them when my time is up because it must be something about the rules of those cards that donât allow recurring payments.
Back when I used to use a pre-paid credit card, it was in the documentation that came with the card detailing whether or not it was viable for subscriptions (reoccurring payments). Not up to the merchant, but up to whatever company made the card.
That said, the card I used to use ended up charging a bunch of additional fees making it a lot more expensive to use than a standard credit card. So people need to make sure that theyâre reading the fine print on any âadditional chargesâ so that they can ensure they have enough funds on the card for the payment to actually clear.
One other thing to keep in mind, is that these cards are not at all supported by Blizz. So if you do end up running into issues, theyâre not really going to be able to assist much.
I usually just use tokens but I was curious enough to try it this morning. Yes, there could be extra charges depending on the card. Mine I pay $7 up front. If blizzard charges me in US funds which I doubt they will there will be charges on that.
The point is that, even though it worked for you, it generally doesnât work - across the board.
In order to stave off the deluge of complaints, they blanket the entire thing with âthey donât work.â And believe me, the complaints do come in. Itâs a regular thing here.
There are many things like this in life. Yes, it worked for you, but pushing the agenda of âitâs just fine, go ahead and use prepaid,â is counter-productive. Especially when itâs the title of your thread.
Itâs only going to cause frustration in the future for some human that isnât you, trying to use a prepaid card for a sub and getting frustrated because they Googled a thread that says âPSA - You can set up a subscription with a prepaid card.â
A wider scope of vision would be most appropriate here. Just because you can and have done something does not mean it works for the rest of the Earth.
So, I am glad you were able to use your prepaid, but itâs not the norm, itâs not the standard, and itâs not how it works for most people.
Responsibly, you might want to change your thread title to:
PSA - I was able to set up a subscription with a prepaid credit card.
They didnât say they didnât work - they just said there might be problems with using them and that is accurate. Some cards I never could get to work - i.e. Visa ones but that is from 5 years or so ago.
It is an option for people. I use Mastercard - gift cards and have used them for probably 8 plus years now (various types) and I actually have never found a site that they couldnât be used on.
I got told this morning that prepaid cards couldnât be used at all for subscriptions and that just isnât the case.
So if people want to experiment and try a few out if they are better options for them than the alternatives I donât see a problem.
As someone that had a credit card on a site that had a security breach, I am very happy with just paying the $7 extra for the extra control I get with them.
Thatâs the thing. They do.
From the support article on why your subscription purchase has failed:
So, they say prepaid cannot be used. Everything I said in my previous post stands. Even though you did it with this caveat and this fee and this minor problem, policy says they donât work. Issuing a blanket PSA that they do work is not productive, for all the reasons I listed in my previous post.
I just subscribed with one. And yes you might not getting recurring payments which is what happened before but that isnât an issue for some people. Some people donât WANT recurring payments and donât want to set up a subscription and have to cancel it every month.
My subscription didnât fail though.
Yes, we arenât debating that here. I know it worked for you.
Given how many of you are telling people you canât set up a subscription with a prepaid card and that are arguing with me until you are blue in the face, no I will not change the heading.
How odd that you people are okay with passing along false information, yet insist others provide all the details.
I think the point the others are trying to make, Dedeyn, is that while you set up a subscription with one, that doesnât necessarily work for all of them. Traditionally, prepaid cards have a number of issues and are not generally an acceptable billing method for subscriptions.
I think weâve covered all that weâre going to here and at this point, weâre just arguing about the finer details. Thanks, all!
