I wanted to let you guys know that those of you who have over 50 characters, and keep the rest in the “Deletion Rotation” may have to go back and level their deleted alts to 50 in order to keep them past 120 days.
The rules on the “Undeleted Characters” Blizzard page now state that only characters that are level 50 are eligible to remain on your account as Deleted but safe for perpetuity.
I’m going back and bringing my non level 50 deleted alts out of Deletion Limbo and leveling them to 50 before I send 'em to sleep again!
It has always said that. I don’t think Blizzard has clarified anywhere if they changed it or not, but 50 has been the cutoff for permanently saving characters since vanilla. Who knows if they’ve updated the policy or not.
Note that it also still mentions class trials which you can’t even make anymore. I don’t think the article has been updated for prepatch.
I believe that 50 was the old setting–meaning, you only had to get a character to level 50 if it was fresh.
That is very different from getting a character to max level in order for it NOT to be perma-deleted.
As such, all of my level 50 characters that I had in Deletion Limbo are now going to be deleted since they are brought down to level 25, due to the level squish!
I really love having alts. In general, I like to have one of each playable race, and for races which I really love, like Tauren, Dwarves, Orcs, ALL the Elves, I have one of each armor quality.
For example: I have 7 Dwarves (2 Dark Iron, male/female; 2 Wildhammer, male/female, 2 Bronzebeard male/female; and 1 Earthen male).
As such, I am at around 58 alts. So, while I do not play them all at the same time, I do cycle them through.
And, the level squish has placed some of my current alts that are below max level in peril.
As such, I wanted to spread the word to other altaholics like myself, so that they know to start cycling their alts in place of their level 50s, since you have to wait 7 days to bring back each deleted alt.
The new level is 50, but that means that your level 50 characters before the pre-Patch are now level 22 characters after the pre-Patch, and up on the chopping block!
So the only way to keep them perma-safe again is to level them up to 50, from level 22.
Can you link an official statement saying this is the case? The article still mentions class trials which don’t exist anymore and didn’t update any of the text in the article when it was “updated” 2 weeks ago. There hasn’t been any official confirmation that they are moving the deletion cutoff to the new 50. They probably just didn’t update the article.
e: According to CS, the article was updated but characters that haven’t been restored/logged into since the squish will continue to operate by the old requirements - if they weren’t going to be deleted before they won’t now, either, until restored and logged into. So you won’t lose anything unless you’ve already logged into those characters since prepatch:
I cannot. There is ambiguity in the current statement, which says that a level 10-29 character will stay deleted for 90 days before they disappear forever, a level 30-49 will stay deleted for 120 days before they disappear forever, and a level 50 will stay deleted but remain in your account forever.
Does this mean that characters who were deleted at level 50+ pre level squish are safe?
It’s unclear. My fear is that since they are talking about levels 10-29 and 30-49, that they mean to say that your characters will delete.
Perhaps characters who were level 50 when the max was 120 are still safe? I want to err in the side of caution.
Yes, it’s always the case. The rest stay deleted for a bit while the capped characters now are there for much longer. That said… they are deleted for a reason…
