Prot Warrior PvP

How does a prot warrior fare in PvP? Mostly asking about open-world and what have you.

Terribly.

You just can’t do enough damage. There are interesting specs, but all of them really lack any real damage-dealing ability if you go deep prot. If you skim the top couple of levels, then sure, but 8-11 points in prot is not really a prot warrior.

You can have quite a bit of fun in BGs (especially early AV) but open world you will really be a free HK.

::Edit:: Thought I would add, that this is 1v1. In a group, you can have some fun, especially with dumdums who don’t realise you are prot if you stance dance and swap weapons appropriately. You do have some CC, and can be annoying to casters. But it is really annoying, you won’t be getting many kills.

Well that sucks. I was looking forward to being prot on a pvp server myself.

While you might be beefy vs melee, you get no extra spell mitigation and thus get blown up by casters while not doing enough damage to compensate.

Well, it won’t stop me.

I don’t think I will be playing enough to respec multiple times each week, so I will be playing prot and staying that way. But I do intend to run with a group, so I’m not worrying too much. I’ll mostly have my wife and best mate with me, and hopefully some guildies at other times as well.

You can still have fun, especially if you have another prot war with you. Two of you, geared and specced appropriately can be super annoying.

Prot in classic just isn’t the solo machine it became by Wrath.

Wrong forum, cowman. Classic here, no big crits on the horizon for a vanilla prot war.

Oh whoops I’ll see myself out.

I hear ya though - prot in Wrath was a lot of fun and people just didn’t know what to expect in world pvp. You could stay alive for long periods of time and wear people out.

But in vanilla, you didn’t have all those sustainability tools.

1v1 fury/arms warriors are prob the only class/spec u can beat. if you have consumables and better gear than the other dude you will be fine in 1v1’s Vs even other classes.

Deep Prot (Shield Slam) PVP is not a thing in Vanilla or BC.

If you want to PVP and you need to tank, go 31/5/15. It is not as much damage as 31/20 but allows you to do casual PVP well enough and you have the Prot talents needed to tank.

Deep prot, especially in defensive gear is a free kill in world PVP. You simultaneously don’t have the rage to do much, and don’t do near enough damage in return.

Wow this thread got toxic fast…

The reason some people are saying they suck or whatever is because prot warriors get hard countered by certain classes. So it will feel like a big struggle whenever you encounter one of those classes.
Why? It’s because you are heavily specializing in your physical defense at the expensive of everything else.

Now… where does a Prot Warrior excel in Pvp?
You will do very well against other warriors, feral druids(Though you wouldn’t be able to catch one running away) and rogues. I think you would have a good chance of winning any of those match-ups actually, if they bother to focus on you.

Now… you’ll get dominated by hunters, mages, warlocks, Boomkins, Shaman.

You just become extremely match-up dependent, which is why some would say they “suck” at pvp.

You can probably be a decent flag carrier though, not as good as a druid, but better than anyone other than a druid. You also have some nifty tricks that can surprise people that don’t realize you are prot.

You’ll lose (and badly) to a well-played feral druid who bleed kites you.

A rogue who even half knows how to play their class will destroy a prot warrior, evenly geared. If you outgear the rogue and spec, gear and enchant for it, you can be a headache for rogues, but in essence, no one is really going to do that.

If you are 1v1 out in the world, a rogue will take longer to kill you, but kill you they will. If you win as prot, then they were a horrible rogue.

Prot war pvp? BC prot is where it’s at.

I think its by far the funnest build to play with in bgs. But in a wpvp/1v1 situation, you’d get rofl stomped by just about anyone that at least knows the basics of PvP. This is all because of the lack of DMG. But I do think that elixir of the mongoose, shadow oil, shrink ray, and dragons chili (I think that’s the name of it?) Does make up for a lot of DPS. But even then that still won’t guarantee a victory in a 1v1 situation. Other classes have ways they can cheese around that situation so unless if you were properly geared + consumables, I wouldn’t even waste my time pvping as prot. Its not even realistically worth spending all that gold on consumes IMO, because like I said people can cheese their way around warriors and all that gold and gear you have on, blasted, by a mage in greens kiting you to death

Not just that but they can out heal your damage while bear form makes them nearly as tanky as you.

Yeah. Bear heal regen alone would be huge. A stun and toss up HoTs or heck root the war and then heal out of range would be all too easy.

They’re not great…and thank goodness for that.

I was tired of tanks wanting to be PvP viable since TBC; hitting a punching bag who can kill you isn’t fun.

Tank DHs absolutely ruined any chance of me enjoying Legion PvP, too.
