Prot War or Prot Pal for RBGs?

Yes I know neither are META and are borderline undesired in RBG groups but if you HAD to choose one to be in your group, which one would you invite? a Prot Paladin or Prot Warrior? And why?

Unfortunately both Prot’s have a lot of bugs right now. So whoever gets some fixes will pull out ahead I suppose lol.

The recent 40% HP buff to everyone benefits Prot War far more though. Prot Pal doesn’t scale well with Stam/Hp. As in they only have the one guardian talent at 30% HP. Prot Pal in general scales pretty bad and in DF the massive power creep has me worried mostly.

Meanwhile Prot War has most talents based on HP and healing/absorbs based on HP. So the recent buff was massive for them. Considering Indomitable gives them 10% more life and heals for 1% HP per 10rage. IP capped at 30% HP. Impending heals 30% HP. Last stand 30% HP. etc…

Prot Pal lost holy power generation from SL while Prot War got massive buffs to Rage generation. So it feels more fun to play in an high APM play style.

Again though both got some big issues to resolve. The 40% buff to HP though benefited most tanks except Prot Pal though. At least that’s how I feel atm.

That 40% HP buff to everyone really changed everything in DF PvP. The question is do they actually balance now after that.

Damn, this is a pretty big buff for Blood as well.

Yea most tanks benefited but Brew and Pal not as much.

Unfortunately DH, Lock etc are tankier and unkillable with this change too.

I can get Ignore Pain stacked up to 185k Absorbs with this HP increase which feels much better. Hence why I made my post about it changing everything. Meanwhile Pally absorb is kinda weak and based on damage.

Prot War actually feels ok if you can always keep Ignore Pain up and hoping this change gets us there. When I do Ashran and get double HP I feel like a different Tank due to the effect of HP talents.

So some benefited massively.

You’re actually downplaying here. They aren’t borderline undesired; you will spend 95% of your playtime getting declined unless you have btags. Unless something in the tuning changes that makes replacing DPS with a tank desirable.

Prot Paladin. They can spin a base fairly well, and are free 4th healers.

You’re right. Blizz really needs to find a better spot for tanks in the pvp meta. Too long have we been stuck in the cracks, without a clear defined purpose and felt ostracized by the PvP community.

Indeed seeing Tanks in PvP should be as common as Dps or Healers. They should be required and welcomed.

A good way to remove that ostracized part is literally make BGs miserable without Tanks just like it is without Healers. I’d say shifting control/utility/CC more to Tanks where they control the battlefield would be great. Also while providing strong pressure in Aoe damage.

Tanks should compliment Healers by reducing enemy damage by an amount where you NEED to have it in Team fights. It would be too big a disadvantage to not have a Tank on the front lines.

I do have some build ideas for Prot War in DF if you are interested and want to talk on Bnet.
