After the Blizzard buff of Ret Paladins’ dps to Fury levels (despite Ret’s higher utility) I think it’s time there was proper discussion around Prot Paladins and their overpowered nature when it comes to tanking.
Along with triple mitigation, consistent block uptime, most reliable AoE threat, Ardent Defender being an in-built cheat death mechanic, Divine Guardian, more taunts than any other tank, Divine Sacrifice and Buffs it’s about time other tanks get some love.
Blizzard has demonstrated whinging will get players what they want now in the name of “balance” so here it is. Paladins received a buff in one spec that was ‘unviable’. Now Prot Paladins deserve a nerf in the name of being ‘too viable’.
That, or buff the three tanks that are B tier (compared to Paladin S tier) as the effective Ulduar nerf that we all have been told is coming. A buff to Warrior, DK and Druid tanks would increase group viability with different tank options for Algalon and allow more runs to proceed.
let’s be realistic, I don’t ever see the warr playerbase complaining nearly as much as Rets did on here since wrath classic released.
Warr players seem to accept the challenge and look for outside-the-box solutions. Warr class has always attracted the top-level theorycrafters and competitive players. The highest rated char on the classic arena ladder right now is a Warr.
I don’t know what it is about ret attracting complainers/“chip on shoulder” players. It always has, since original vanilla/tbc. Mages also used to be known for their forum tears, but they’ve been alright (maybe because most mages in vanilla/tbc classic NA servers were non english speaking)
i know this post may seem deliberately inflammatory but it’s just an observation of mine over the years
Correct, Paladin is the most heavily represented class. Which is partially why the buff occurred, if Ret is made ‘viable’ by Blizz then more players will continue on.
That’s why I suggest potentially buffs for the three tanks picking up slack. You effectively nerf Ulduar to what most people would agree is an acceptable degree since tanks die less often and thus bosses are easier. You also allow more Ulduar groups to go through without necessarily having a Prot Paladin tank as a must-have. That and you put tanks at least a tier closer to overpowered Paladin tanks.
