Something always gets to everyone. We all have buttons that can be pushed, twisted, and irritated. What grinds your gears? What really makes you tick? What specific thing would be what it takes to spur you into action, retaliation, or anger?
Info
This is meant to be a fun exercise, so there aren’t many rules.
Prompts are fun little things meant to inspire. You don’t have to perfectly match the prompt. Just let it inspire a thought.
I’m going to try and post these weekly, sometime between Saturday and Monday probably. Feedback and prompt ideas are welcome, so feel free to post them in the archive thread. Some prompts will be more thought provoking, some more whimsical. Respect your fellow writers.
Disclaimer: I cannot take full credit for every prompt. Some of these I create on my own, some are prompts I’ve seen that I’ve taken a WoW spin to, and some I’ve seen and used in the past, some are ideas spoken in passing between me and coworkers, or guildmates, or some are offered directly from folks on the forums. If I’ve been directly given a prompt from another person, I will credit them unless they do not want to. Otherwise, know some of these are gained through many means.

Haeven believes in the inalienable merits of fairness and order. He believes that social equilibrium is achievable through the teachings of the Light. With those core ethos at heart, really anything that detracts from fairness and order is enough to spur at least consideration of action. Haeven isn’t a Paladin, he is a “Light Touched” Human. Which means he was chosen by the light even though he is by no means a formal paladin. So really anything that you would think would be in opposition with someone chosen by the light to be one of its foot soldiers would grind his gears at least to some degree.

Ratheron had to actively suppress the urge to rhythmically tap his claws against the side of his throne in a display of his displeasure at the lesser Nathrezim’s overly-detailed and intricate scheme. The Legion of Shadows had taken off without a hitch, swallowing up numerous smaller warbands from the scattered fragments of the Burning Legion with ease. Unfortunately, that included the refuse amidst these vagabond demons.
When the younger Nathrezim finished, and turned a pleased grin at his master, Ratheron broke the entire plan in a single sentence- “And what if they don’t pick up the orb?” The younger Nathrezim’s expression was a textbook picture of dawning realization. “Ah, don’t tell me, I can see it on your face; the whole plan falls apart. You are fortunate I do not kill my subordinates over simple matters such as this, but make no mistake, I find this… displeasing. Your zeal is noted, but your execution needs polish.”
There was no crueler punishment for a Nathrezim than to strike them in the ego. Needless to say, Ratheron promptly did just that. “Ah, I apologize, I made an error in my previous statement. Your execution is in need of complete renovation.” The younger Nathrezim audibly choked on the words of protest trying and failing to form in his throat. “Report to Balthazar for remedial lessons, youngling. Clearly, you need to be reminded what constitutes a proper scheme.”
The young Nathrezim finally gave up, hanging his head in shame as he walked out.
Ratheron sighed. “Seventeen more incompetents to process… yay.” Ratheron’s bored tone was heard by exactly nobody.

Sarestha is very easily driven into a rage if someone tells her that the Forsaken have no right to exist. She’s very passionate about her people having a place in Azeroth, and that one fires her up more than anything else - especially when people say they ought to be put back in the grave.

Vencio is just a formally gray moral character, akin to that of an anti-hero and not a “lawful/heroic” morally right character.
He’s easily disgusted by dogma and religious sects in all forms regardless of tradition and religion, therefore it drives him into rage whenever he encounters someone whom claims the light is a sect of “philosophical norms” when in truth the light knowns neither sacred nor profrane, its just a force within us all.

Among the few things that make Death Knight Gharion feel genuine disgust and hatred are Blood Knights and the Forsaken.
The Blood Knights commited terrible crimes against a naaru, the closest thing the light has to heralds, and they were handed both redemption and power on a silver platter. While on the other hand, the ebon blade and its Death Knights are eternally doomed not even for what they have done, but simply for what they are. To him, they’re no heroes, they’re no paladins- just pretenders.
The Forsaken because little by little, they are becoming worse than the Scourge- the Scourge at least was a total, blalant and unapologetic evil he could begrudgingly respect. The Forsaken constantly stoop to the very same lows and then cry bully when they themselves prove the living are right to, if not fear them, despise them at the very least.
Don’t get him wrong, Death Knight Gharion knows he’s not exactly a saint, but he never pretends he is.

What grinds Raede’s gears are people who wholeheartedly serve Sylvanas.
Raede wants no part in the faction war. He has never wanted to harm members of the Alliance. He has, however done a few things that questioningly could even be considered aid to the Alliance, such as killing bandits in Elwynn Forest. He will also mercy kill Alliance soldiers if they are completely beyond saving and are just lingering on.
This is not to say he completely rejects the Horde or has done no service to the Horde; but what he does for the Horde also must benefit the Alliance. The blood trolls of Nazmir were a nuisance to everyone and he had no qualms fighting against them.
He is even married to a member of the Alliance and so must remain as neutral as possible. He is openly a member of Saurfang’s rebellion.

Berusein often gets annoyed when the topic of High King gets brought up in conversations. Everyone is has their own opinion and they have valid points on why Anduin should or shouldn’t be High King. I always ask the question to those who bashes Anduin, on who would be better? I typically get a non answer or a anyone else is better with no solid reasoning. And to those who protect Anduin with everything they have fail to see that perhaps he is just too good of an individual to lead the Alliance though a bitter war.
I try to push that annoyance away by asking why do they think other racial leaders support him. What is preventing Moria from denying the alliance troops to secure the position for her son in the future? Why is Genn not taking more charge of the military forces in place of Anduin? Why did Tyrande wait so long to bring the battle to darkshore?
I always think that people who question the military leadership of the High King fail to remeber that diplomacy that is needed to even get a shred of troops from other parts of the alliance. The Dwarves denied Varian troops at one point to send to Pandaria. Even when Varian was considered a very strong military leader, but they forget he had to learn diplomatic affairs from Anduin.
During times of war Anduin may not be the best to bear the mantle of High King. Simply because he is inexperienced, but during times of peace I rather not have anyone else be a representative of the Alliance ideals than what Anduin is capable of having.
So what annoys me the most? when people don’t consider what happens after a major war and the problems we would face.

Don’t pat Anya on the head. *
Anya possessed an aptitude for plant magic at a very young age. While most of her druidic mentors encouraged her talent, they still treated her like - well, a child. They would either condescend to her, or wearily shut her up with maple candy (usually after she’d barge into the sleeping barrows shrieking a hundred questions on how to transform into a rabbit.) There was one druid who was clearly not used to children, who would pat Anya on the head and tell her to “run along and tend to your flowers” - even when she just celebrated her coming-of-age ceremony. To this day, Anya hates it when her fellow kal’dorei still pat her on the head or treat her like a little girl. You think your parents can be annoying? Try getting a knowing smirk and an “oh, you sweet, naïve child” look from a 5,000 year old night elf.
*Unless she’s in cat form. Then it _might _ be okay.

For Zirahael, there are a few points, like:
- When your horns get stuck in a low hanging doorframe due to stupid human architecture.
- When your assigned shivarra doesn’t understand simple portal magic, and leaves you waiting for half an hour or drops you over an ocean.
- How the fel magic you consume prefers to mainly go to your butt.
- Having to explain that you are not technically a demon; and that you do not eat babies; to every guard and authority.
- When people make a big deal about smooth skin.
Oh, and when people wave holy symbols at you. Quit it already!

Cora is the member of a small neutral organization that focuses on learning and documenting biology and sociology across all races that live on Azeroth, and her primary job within this faction is enforcing that no prejudice exists within the organization. Racism is something that she absolutely cannot stand, and she will defend interracial relationships passionately.
Even small things. Like remember how Khadgar questioned that horde’s garrison architect (Gazlowe) was a goblin? Cora would go feral if she were there. Or at least seethe quietly

Gobonrehc is in a perpetual state of irritation- partly because he’s a living curse, gotta imagine that ain’t a pleasant existence, yeah?- and frankly he feels disgust towards all living creatures, because his very nature is to stand in opposition of life.
But two quick ways to get him to curse your tongue and freeze your heart?
Present any kind of holy symbol around him- his very presence suffocates divine energy, and he’s not exactly weak to the Light, but ‘hollow faith’ offends him deeply. To him, those who wield the Light are bereft of their own strength, they turn to another entity, one with its own agenda independent of them, to find power. (He finds Warlocks disgusting for a similar reason, but it’s not quite as dire, because Warlocks, as far as he’s seen, aren’t seeking this power because they’re weak, but because they’re not satisfied with the power they already have)
The second is to ask about his brother.
At best, you’ll get informed that his brother skewered him through the heart and sealed him in a giant glacier for ten thousand years, before Gobonrehc demonstrates how the skewering occurred.
At worst, you’ll have no mouth with which to scream.

After treating many patients who were willing to fight and give their lives protecting Azeroth from their fair share of threats,Kalithos had developed a great disdain for who some would call glory hogs. There had been various patients some he saved without too much harm, saved but had to amputate limbs and recommend prosthetic parts for and some he sadly could not save who were apart of the greater fights such as the war against the scourge, burning Legion,Deathwing and his cultists, etc. yet he will quietly seethe anytime some blowhard steals the credit for laying the ills of Azeroth low and in doing so,belittled his patient’s efforts. "These fine men and women risked their lives so Azeroth and its citizens would remain safe, some even gave their lives yet you have the gall to take credit for their efforts! How dare you?!?!?!"
The good doctor lives by the creed of being humble and growing stronger while facing your flaws along the way and seeing some people be so arrogant take credit for the hard work of others and claiming alleged connection to the higher parts of the hierarchy as though they’re some messiah [again belittling the efforts of those who fought hard, those who survives and those whom gave their lives] makes his blood boil. Bigotry and other forms of injustice are also things that make Kali’s gears grind. Specifically, he hates seeing when those with power use it to bully the weak rather than help them and seeing enemies who find themselves entitled to take the lives of the innocent [where he often steps in and does his damndest to save the victim in question] "Life is a precious gift,no matter how insignificant you may think they lived,I won’t let you take this gift away!"

Lián is a kind soul through and through with a lot of empathy. She has always been that way even as a young cub on the wandering isle. Because of this, she can’t stand seeing others lied to, stolen from, manipulated or hurt.
Anytime she has seen something of the sort go down, she has attempted to defend the victim.
But while she finds these acts deplorable, she doesn’t hold any true ill will towards those who do them. She has sort of a “fixer” complex where she thinks she can help them turn a new leaf, which usually only ends up getting her mixed up with negative crowds.

Not much truly grinds my gears. I do however find the This post has been withdrawn… will be deleted in 24 hours. crew, to be slightly annoying, I’m not talking about those who make the occasional mistakes. I mean those that do it constantly. Those that write a slew of posts then delete them. If you don’t want it on the forums, then don’t write it to begin with.

Xandona here does not consider herself a soldier and gets noticeably annoyed when people call her that. Furthermore, she doesn’t consider herself special in any way and hates being called “Champion.” (Looking at you, Magni…)
