[Prompt] Warped Desire

Desires and wants are what keep us going forward in life. They are a goal, a destination. Whether it is the simple desire for a bit of food, or the desire to become something more than you are now.

Yet.

N’Zoth, demon of the minds, has seeped into many’s world and vision. Whether he haunts your dreams or fully clouds your vision, you find those desires of yours warped. Twisted into dark versions that you find yourself forced to face.

What is the dark world of your desires, twisted and manifested as simply a nightmare or full on delusion?

Info

This is meant to be a fun exercise, so there aren’t many rules.

Prompts are fun little things meant to inspire. You don’t have to perfectly match the prompt. Just let it inspire a thought.

I’m going to try and post these weekly, sometime between Saturday and Monday probably. Feedback and prompt ideas are welcome, so feel free to post them in the archive thread. Some prompts will be more thought provoking, some more whimsical. Respect your fellow writers.

Disclaimer: I cannot take full credit for every prompt. Some of these I create on my own, some are prompts I’ve seen that I’ve taken a WoW spin to, and some I’ve seen and used in the past, some are ideas spoken in passing between me and coworkers, or guildmates, or some are offered directly from folks on the forums. If I’ve been directly given a prompt from another person, I will credit them unless they do not want to. Otherwise, know some of these are gained through many means.

my character did some harsh stuff during this previous war. She dosnt regret her actions but to this day worries for her safety as a sylvanis loyalist.
The dream would probably warp in a way to show that. Maybe a public shaming or a execution.

Never again will her people be outcasts. Never again will her people be without allies. Never again will her people find themselves without a home.

Tanthelara reached out to the void, and the shadows responded. They gave her sight beyond reality, and filled her vision with a glimpse of the future if she would but yield her powers to the countless whispers:

Silvermoon was restored to its former glory. Marble and gold and rubies adorned the gates of the elven kingdom, shimmering in the sun with a thousand points of light. The streets were quiet - the clawing of the wretched no longer present from the ruined quarter across the Dead Scar. The Sunwell blazed with a righteous fury off the northern shore and the air itself seemed to hum with energy. The beauty filled her heart with joy, to know that the suffering her people endured would soon end!

The whispers of the void rushed over her, filling her ears with the intensity of a river …look deeper, and see the power you shall wield…

She turned her gaze towards Sunfury Spire and saw an image of herself, adorned in robes of scarlet, embroidered in rubies and emeralds, perched upon a throne that bore the crest of a twin-headed phoenix not all dissimilar from that of the Sunstrider dynasty. Before her, a prisoner was brought to heel - a human female.

No, an elf. Though battered, scarred, and malnourished, she could recognize the auburn hair and golden eyes of the Blood Knight Matriarch herself, Liadrin.

Tanthelara saw herself rise and approach the bound paladin, runes of Light crackling around the prisoner’s wrists and suddenly turning to ash. With an outstretched hand, tendrils of void snaked from her fingertips and caressed the prisoner’s face. She next saw darkness flash over her, her body consumed in the unnatural un-light of the void and taking on a monstrous form. In a heartbeat, multiple tendrils shot from her body and pierced the bound paladin, snuffing out her life instantly. As the Matriarch’s soul left for the shadowlands, Tanthelara reeled in horror to see the spectral essence of the departed be absorbed into her own horrible frame. Then, as if nothing had happened, she saw her body return to normal and resume its seat upon the throne. Moments later, the body of Liadrin began to stir - the same un-light shining through a piercing gaze. The reanimated Blood Knight was then led to a side chamber, where awaited others with similar unnatural gazes.

As the void pulled her gaze away from Sunfury Spire, Tanthelara could see that Quel’thalas was no longer home to just elves - all of Azeroth’s races had found a home in the elven kingdom; human, dwarf, and orc alike, among the rest. They all bore the same gaze of un-light as Liadrin now did.

Never again would her people be outcasts, for the void controlled all. Never again would her people be without allies, for the void united all. Never again will her people find themselves without a home, for the void claimed all.

(sorry if this came off kinda cheesy!)

There was a specific vibe I was going after, initially planning on having opening lines being “fulfilled” by having the race eradicated by predation from the other azeroth races (something, something “elf blood is a panacea”, something, something) but couldn’t reach that goal if the plan is to make her want what the void has to offer. Instead, enslavement & servitude, with a gilded cage and golden chains.

I just discovered these writing prompts. They’re a really fun way to explore a pseudo-backstory I’ve off-and-on been working on for my priestess main as well as looking at elements I’ve been wanting to introduce into my own writing as an aspiring author while being able to rely on the foundation of the Warcraft universe.

To OP and anyone who liked my prompt reply, I’m planning on writing a response to them all! (and any new ones that get created).

I look forward to it for sure. I’ve enjoyed reading them thus far. <3
