[Prompt] Challenged Beliefs

Ever since you were a child, you’ve always held firm to some belief and it has shaped who you have become as an adult. But today, something has unraveled that belief. Walk us through what happens and how your character adapts… or doesn’t. Or simply walk through the belief itself and why it has shaped who you are. Is it a hatred of orcs, perhaps challenged when an orc saves your life? Faith in the light now shaken by the light’s aggressive crusade? Is it a strong belief that would take a drastic change to challenge? What would it take?

Info

This is meant to be a fun exercise, so there aren’t many rules.

Prompts are fun little things meant to inspire. You don’t have to perfectly match the prompt. Just let it inspire a thought.

I’m going to try and post these weekly, sometime between Saturday and Monday probably. Feedback and prompt ideas are welcome, so feel free to post them in the archive thread. Some prompts will be more thought provoking, some more whimsical. Respect your fellow writers.

Disclaimer: I cannot take full credit for every prompt. Some of these I create on my own, some are prompts I’ve seen that I’ve taken a WoW spin to, and some I’ve seen and used in the past, some are ideas spoken in passing between me and coworkers, or guildmates, or some are offered directly from folks on the forums. If I’ve been directly given a prompt from another person, I will credit them unless they do not want to. Otherwise, know some of these are gained through many means.

Ravasha was waiting in the forest outside Undercity. She had sent a letter out for any people from the Horde that were ready to cleanse the Blight from the forest. She petted her Hawkstrider and said softly.

“The only kind of people I don’t want are the Forsaken. I swore allegiance to Warchief Windrunner but her minions creep me out.” She wrinkled her nose in disgust.

Riding up on a skeletal horse, a young Forsaken woman by the name Lizitte appeared. She dismounted and saluted the Blood Elf.

Ravasha gives her a difficult to read look and then when the group was fully assembled they departed.

On their journey they were attacked by skeletons of Alliance soldiers. The battle was going hard and the soldiers had wounded Ravasha. Lizitte was quick to heal her, the Healing Mists flowing into her wound, and closing it. Ravasha waited until they were alone.

“I must say, you surprised me.” Ravasha says.

“S-Surprised you ma’am?” Lizitte queries.

“Yes. Since I was almost food for zombies, I’ve feared your kind, but you saved my life without hesitation. Thank you.” Ravasha salutes Lizitte.

Still the Blood Elf harbors hatred for those that used to be under the Lich King’s sway. They are clearing away Blight when Ravasha gets too close momentarily. The thick gas enters her lungs and she falls. Lizitte is at her side, Healing Mists ready.

“Thank you. But I would have been fine. I had a Healthstone.” Ravasha protests.

Still the young Forsaken healer is winning her over. Later they are finally done cleaning up. Lizitte and Ravasha are sitting on a tree stump. Ravasha decides now is a good time to air her feelings.

“The Forsaken used to serve the Lich King. He decimated my people. How can I ever trust your kind?” Ravasha says suspiciously.

“W-Well, ma’am, I heard that your k-kind fell under the sway of the fel for a time. It’s k-kind of like how we used t-to be.” Lizitte says.

Ravasha thinks for a moment.

“Yes, I suppose you’re right. We were both trapped in a cycle of submission and dominance. I was wrong to have judged you based on your past.” She says.

Ravasha got up and considered something.

“But if you ever become like what your kind used to be, I’ve got enough firepower to take you out. Do you understand?” Ravasha threatened.

“Y-Yes ma’am!” Lizitte quickly stood at attention and saluted.

Ravasha smiled. Her heart had changed that day on zombies. She would no longer fear and despise the undead. Rather she thought as she struck a flame in her hand, she would respect them, while making them fear her.

Lizitte squeaked, hid her face, and shook bodily as Ravasha walked away.
