Professions: Too Complex, too Boring

Yes that is the point… Its too complicated for me to bother with them. When it was simple i enjoyed professions.

Glad you found it.

There’s so many, at best, misconceptions in this post. So from top to bottom:

  1. My point is that MMO players in general engage with way more complicated systems than these. WoW professions were a complete and utter joke for 16+ years and only became really a ‘thing’ in Dragonflight. Prior to that they were gold makers, gold sinks, or consumables. As I said in my original comment;
  1. The overwhelming consensus of players in game rather on social media platforms is that professions are really fun and engaging. This whole narrative of yours is at best just an unfounded bias against it. Because of what I said before; you didn’t like professions but you licked ticking a box, as professions aren’t about ticking boxes but rather crafting stuff now, those are the people who complain about the updated system.
  2. A crafter doesn’t have to have ever stepped inside of even a Delve, or a LFD to make raid level gear. You saying “[…] and those that do are likely required to for raid items.” is literally nothing other than crystal clear evidence that you have no idea what you are talking about.
To hold the view you state here, you clearly haven’t ever even attempted to engage with the system. So yeah, you saying this means that you just ousted yourself as absolutely clueless and just irrationally biased.

I gave up on professions in Dragonflight.

I’ll just buy what I need.

You then gotta manage the constant mails from AH.

You like endless, soul-crushing scrip grinding? Trying to jam that 5th materia in and failing over and over? And then having to make tons more items just to extract more materia? Mining and herbing the same 4 nodes over and over and over until… oh the timed node is up… time to get some collectables until my GP runs out… That?

And yes, they got rid of gathered HQ/NQ quality levels, but they still have collectable levels and HQ/NQ crafted items. And you have to have old mats on hand, because they might randomly add some basic lettuce from the original areas.

End game? You mean when you finally have enough stats so that you can finally make HQ items with your one macro? And then you press your macro, and then you press your macro and then you press your macro again… and you make… one… item… at … a … time. And its always the same, the procs do not matter at all, because you never play the crafting minigame ever again once you out-stat it. That end game?

The crafting community there begged SE to make something hard enough that we would actually be challenged, and they just never did. I was an ALC/WVR specialist, but I never used my specialist actions. Ever. It was never needed, because nothing held enough difficulty to warrant it.

FFXIV is a great game. It has a great story. I like their characters. But, having been a pot end game crafter there, I can definitely say I MUCH prefer making pots and flasks in WoW. Sure, I’m still just pressing a button but a) I can get multicraft procs! b) my choices in my specialization matter! c) I am not out farming the same 4 nodes ad nauseum, and d) no scrip grinding omg …

Professions sometimes doesn’t make sense at all! all blue items, lv 580 hits professions in a recommended way from whatever websites, can wins the dmg/ heals over lv 610 self hit profession people. especially on hunters massed up badly!! beast mastery hunters with lv580 wins the dmg lv 615 MM hunters with a way way better dmg given. this is totally stupid i can never understand…

Well, I haven’t played it in a few expacs :man_shrugging: I did have fun levelling the crafts up when I did play. Much more fun than… this.

Regardless, let’s put FFXIVs profession system to the side. WoWs is still bland, boring and tedious. Blizzard used to be good at innovation. I expected a lot more from the rework.

Honestly, the only thing they need to get rid of is the world treasure KP.

The current system is good actually

If you don’t want to engage with it, you don’t have to; you can just give me all your gold and I’ll deal with all the complexity for you (or some other crafter will)

I don’t mind the complexity but the cost is exorbitant right now (specifically keeping up with patron orders and attempting to craft harmonious horticultures for raiding cauldrons)

If im honest, this thing isnt worth it one bit.

Other than gathering I haven’t really done much. I tinkered a little with blacksmithing, but I haven’t done much because I find the talents/specialties confusing.

I am hesitant to put points into anything because I am afraid picking something will lock out something else.

If too complicated, why didnt you ask for help here or some yt/discord/wowhead sources?

It was about 300-400% more expensive at the beginning of TWW.
Overall, scarcity of materials are making crafts “expensive” and it is not fault of professions.
When you buy mats on AH, profits by craft are tiny really.

If any of the gear you could craft was worth the amount of time and resources they’re asking me to spend on it, it would be worthwhile, but no, I have to go find rare materials on top of the basic materials just to craft a belt with a respectable ilvl.

I wouldn’t mind how complicated and boring it is if I actually felt it was worth doing at the end, but I don’t.

I have pretty much given up on professions other then mining …herbing and a bit of tailoring for the new bags …rest tried some engi…nope…tried some Alchemy…nope…so now I just sell the raw mats instead…

blah blah blah, nice tabard.

Period.

Believe it or not, but that was sort of the point of the profession rework. They wanted only a handful of people per server being able to craft specific items at a decent level.

I can’t get skill points so I quit

I started hating on some professions when they ripped out all my ammo recipes on this Character who is a Engi… Lord I hate that …
