Let’s be real for a moment here, how amny have actually maxed out the legendary rank crafting system? Pretty much NO ONE in my guild had touched the crafting system, other than cooking and alch for the cauldrons. In which the majority of the player base turns to the AH to be able to buy their legendary base items. Which initially were super expensive, and of course they fell in price as time went on. Yet their still extremely expensive and it’s simply because of the cost barrier to even grind out the ranks to make the max level items. Personally I feel like it failed, similar to a lot of other systems in SL’s. Given there wasn’t much incentive at all to dump all the gold required into the crafting system to even craft one for yourself. Which means not many are able to make the base items, and in turn meant the entire expansion base items were stupid expensive for the non cloth slots, with the jewel crafting ones being the worst offenders of this system. With the exception of cloth as anyone can gather cloth and means its far cheaper a as result. Yet the leather and ore ones don’t have that luxury, takes a ton of time and materials to make one item. In which it drove the cost through the roof and kept it there the entire expansion it feels like. Personally I am on the fence of making a blacksmith and jewlecrafter, as I would rather make it myself over having to buy tokens to max my legendaries out. Yet the current system makes that an extremely tedious chore to even do, given you have to level up each slot 10 times per rank to even make the max items, and that alone was just a terrible idea.
Please don’t make another system like this, or at least don’t make the ranks stupid expensive to obtain. As that’s the current problem, and it’s about to be amplified with the boosting community ban.
As far as the other professions go… I honestly don’t think that when people said they wanted professions to have value/be meaningful that this is what they meant.
Legendaries that cost an arm and a leg to make, just for the person to make them to turn around and try to sell them for a price that no one WANTS to pay but ENOUGH people suck it up and tolerate.
What happened to all the fun stuff they added to professions in Legion?
What happened to the fun side activities that came with fishing? LUCKILY FOR ME I am extremely lazy and have a lot of back logged fishing activities to catch up on. I hope they see MY metrics and how much time I’m NOT spending in Shadowlands in this regard.
And as Thallia has said, several times throughout the forums, WHERE IS ARCHEOLOGY?!
Because of this legendary issue, i mentioned before that it seems we don’t have too much CC members focus on professions, only 2 members talk a little bit here
I hope we’ve some new CC members with professions on mind, i think player power like legendaries shouldn’t be part of professions, maybe catch up gear instead of being added for other resources.
IMO professions should be always tied to more art than power. I feel like a lot of the game needs to step back from being designed around power or neglected.
People wanted crafting to be good again, and then we got legendaries via crafting. They did sort of listen, but we have a be careful what you wish for situation here.
i love engineering. wormholes add a love of flavor…as do the battle pets, gliders, etc.
Thats the kind of personality the game needs more of.
Crafting should be for transmogs, not for players gouging other players for ilvl.
I’ve maxed out all the profs this expansion. They’re all underwhelming.
I’ve not bothered crafting more than one legendary, just to see what it was like.
I’ve also not bothered with crafter’s marks other than fiddling around with them enough to realize they will probably always come too late to actually be useful to me.
And I’d still love for someone to explain how fishing has more skill points in this expansion than every other profession.
The main reason I’m not a fan of the for-power crafting is because of the token’s existence. If we didn’t have the ability to just buy gold from the shop I’d probably support the idea of tying power to the professions.
It existing in a game like FFXIV is fine for me, because there’s no shadow over the system that makes it feel like it was designed for me to drop $20 into. So being able to craft all of these powerful BoEs with a lot of effort is great.
But the token does exist in WoW, so they don’t have the luxury of being able to tie power to these things without it feeling like it was designed around micro transactions.
Depends on the effort. It would likely mean fewer sellers as well, because a lot of people wouldn’t be able to buy their way to the top of the profession.
Like pre-WoD. A good example was the crafted weapons and such in MoP.
Another factor is how much gold people can obtain from folks who farm it for blizzard balance.
