Professions are terrible

That is your opinion.

I don’t like the ingenuity stat or the timegate on knowledge points, but it doesn’t take that long to get the points each week, and there are enough points easily available through treasures, renown and first crafts to get what’s most important right away. I say this as a person with the master of all khaz algar achievement who only bought some cloth off the AH and doesn’t spend very much time farming or crafting. And by much time I mean 2 hours a week at most.

its not that expensive…

every profession has a niche and viable, while work orders has its issues. Its better than the alternative where other then maybe one piece of crafted gear being worth crafting.

Also soulbound, because lol.

I love the new profession system. It makes me happy that I race changed to be a dragon, so I can rest on my piles of gold.

Well, no. I have had all professions up to speed during expansions, that “master of all” achievement is just one of my goals. Then came legion, BfA, and SL, didn’t get those for reasons I can’t remember.

In DF professions sucked hard because if you wanted orders, you had to use your alts. Also, many first crafts required a spark, kind of a road block there unless you had the sparks to waste. You couldn’t reset your points, so if you go the wrong direction you’re just… Very difficult to keep them all up and viable.

Now, it’s completely different. Patron orders are the saving grace of this system. The patron provides a spark for those big first crafts when one is needed. They also provide KP, acuity and other goodies. And I believe you get one reset on KP now.

I got the achievement a while ago, and can craft a lot of nice things. I could put this all to work for gold, but the savings from crafting everything I’ve needed has eliminated the need. So for me, I’m enjoying professions.

My main is a gather toon, fish, flowers, and rocks. Also the cook for my alt army. The other 7 do the crafting, no real need for gear but they all made 600 by the end of season 1, didn’t even need to level them up, it was just because. Most months they only saw one day for 10 minutes each week for the profession weeklies and patron orders.

It’s something to do when you don’t feel like running stuff. Don’t knock it till you try it.

Usually, at the beginning of every expansion reagents prices are high and then balance out and never seems so exorbitant. I think the AH has been taken over by ‘bot/biz’ and are monopolizing the entire trade. I have never seen such weird stuff going on in AH and professions.

Amazing I can’t even buy 564 level Alchemy Robe … keep looking … I can’t get enough Acuity to even bother with the ‘expert’ levels ON ANY OF MY TOONS… I Hate TWW professions way more that DI. I was hoping they would make it better, but, it is so much worse… I barely bother now. It saddens me because I ALWAYS loved to ‘max’ out my professions. Oh well.

That’s a bit of a reach. I’m definitely a real person made out of flesh and bone, last I checked, not some kind of bot.

I like professions, but I can understand why many people are turned off by them and have zero interest in them whatsoever.

For me, professions became a game within a game. I have every single profession maxxed out and a lot of KP invested in each one. My goal with TWW was to be completely self-sufficient, meaning that if I ever needed something crafted, I’d have an alt that can make it at R5. I basically never have to go to the AH to buy anything or put in a crafting order for someone else to make it for me.

I probably would have saved a ton of time if I just ignored professions altogether and just ponied up the gold whenever I needed something, but it’s satisfying for me to not have to rely on anyone else, and to have my entire warband be completely self-sufficient.

It’s also become a nice source of passive income for me. Folks in my guild put up guild crafting orders fairly frequently and I try to fill them whenever I see one up. I probably make 50K gold a week just filling crafting orders for guildies. I could probably make more if I advertised in trade chat, but I don’t want to deal with that headache, so I just do guild orders only.

I acknowledge that many people don’t have as much time to play WoW as I do, so I think it’s a normal reaction for some people to look at professions and just think “I don’t wanna do any of that”. The good thing about WoW is that there are so many different ways to play the game, so we don’t all have to like the same things. Some folks are super into pet battles and I have literally zero interest in them whatsoever.

No, not really. I pay for my sub every month just from professions alone. It really doesn’t take that much work either.

Now if you want to argue that patron orders are a bit off, I won’t oppose that. I do get tired of Blizzard expecting you to pay out 5-20k in mats for a 10 acuity award, but that’s small potatoes.

So, you’re using a gaslight argument to claim gaslighting from people who enjoy professions? Fascinating take.

of all the things you couldve latched onto to blame for you and your friends not liking wow anymore you chose the one part of the game thats been optional for a majority of the games lifespan for a majority of players… points for originality i guess.

the conspiracy theorist in me says they made all professions garbage, so that you can’t make gold/feels bad to grind professions in the game without buying the good, ol’ reliable wow token…

but idk could be a multitude of reasons that professions are garbage and don’t feel good…

One of the best things about classic is that you could BE your profession. You could be a blacksmith, or an enchanter, the game was more than just your race & class…which is really cool. Hope they can get back to that feeling someday for retail!

Professions aren’t bad at all, you just don’t understand them and can’t be bothered to learn.

You are truly years beyond your wisdom.

How? I got fun with it. Sure my Alchemy requires work. But my Shaman JC is passive income with public work Orders.

Professions are great. They’re timegated, but you only have to do so much every week to progress them. My alchemy is maxed out and my herbalism will be maxed out in a couple more weeks.

Lol. I make far more gold off of professions now than ever before. I won’t have to pay for my sub for 3 years thanks to just this patch.

Professions very easy, first ask “what do I want to be good at making” and then beeline that node. When you’re done with that pick something else and go for that node. The only pitfall is if you chose something useless to be good at.

It’s designed to be more like real life professions, since most people hate their jobs.

In terms of engagement metrics maybe, but fun and meaningful progression/content? absolutely not.

They made it an annoying job you have to clock into once a week or you’ll be left behind. They don’t allow people to grind at their own pace or control their own progression.

Once again Blizzard takes away all control and the ability to play at your own pace to force metrics, even if it ruins a game mode.

Bingo, they turned it into something you have to “clock into” where you don’t actually have agency in controlling its outcome or progression, so there’s no meaning and it’s been turned into an unfun job.

They need to remove the 2 profession limit and make professions warbound. Having to level an alt just to do another profession is dumb. Having to relevel professions because you switch classes is dumb.

FFXIV lets you have every profession on one character and every class on one character. The world didn’t end.

They added complications to obfuscate that it exists for MAU metrics now, rather than on its own as fun content you have meaningful progression over. It’s just another part of the game that they ruined with no agency timegate that they tried to upsell.
