Profession Skill Points

I haven’t started any of the new material yet; I’m doing all the old world quests. I’ve completed Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms and started on Outlands.

I noticed that the profession skill points are messed up. Within my profession tab, it says 75/75 for Alchemy, Herbalism, Cooking, Fishing, but when I go to learn the recipes from the profession trainers, it says, on the trainer side that I have 134/300 for fishing but my character profession tab says 75/75. It’s the same for all the professions. The numbers are out of whack.

What happened?

On the dropdown for each profession or skill, are you ensuring you are looking at the correct expansion (i.e., matching to whatever expansion’s zone you are in at the time)?

The main profession/skills menu will display the highest expansion you have trained for each.

The trainers will be specific to each expansion’s zone. Fishing can be learned up through Shadowlands at your capital city. After that, you will need to go to a specific expansion zone to learn theirs.

But the fishing trainer will still show you the skill level of the latest expansion you have learned at the top of their menu ( in my case, that is Khaz Algar).

Yes. It’s the correct one.

Which recipes are you attempting to learn? Looking at your fishing you have 75 in Pandaria, Northrend and Outland Fishing, 300 for Classic and your Khaz Algar (the one from the War Within) is 134.

You need the specific skill in that particular expansion’s profession bracket in order to learn a recipe from it.

Exactly. It says on my side, I have 75 in fishing, 75 in alchemy and 75 in cooking, but when I go to a profession trainer and have it set to the correct expansion (Outland) it says on the trainer side that I am 134/300 for Outland fishing.

I’m looking to learn all the recipes for alchemy/cooking even if they are useless.

Outland skills don’t go to 300 except archeology.

Are you sure that those aren’t classic recipes? Those should be the only ones to have a skill of up to 300.

I think the current expansion professions skill points are “bleeding” into Outland professions.

As Kiyoko posted, Outland fishing doesn’t go that high.

That seems unlikely, if it is, definitely a bug.

What specific recipe is it, though?

It isn’t bleeding, it is just how the professions menus are displayed, see my earlier post for screenshots.

It might help to know which NPC you are interacting with, which recipes you are referring to? A screenshot would be great, you can post an imgur link by using the preformatted text option.

Nevermind. You’re not getting it, or I’m an idiot explaining it. I’ll just forget Outland professions.

All of them.

Where are you going for the Outland fishing trainer?

As said above, when you talk to any trainer, the shown skill level is for the most recent version of that profession.

You are seeing 134/300 for Khaz Algar fishing, regardless of what trainer you go to. Every trainer will show 134/300, which is referring to Khaz Algar fishing, not that expansion’s fishing level.

I can’t see the recipes for the Outland professions as it’s showing the recipes for the current expansion. It’s not just fishing, it’s all the professions and all the profession trainers.

I change it to the outland expansion in the drop down menu and it still shows the recipes for the current not outland expansion.

It’s a bug…I think…

Do you mean you change the drop-down in your professions tab then go to a vendor? Vendors have different recipes and usually by expansion. Going to a cooking vendor in TWW will not show Outland cooking recipes.

Edit: changed example to cooking cause I don’t think fishing recipes exist heh.

Then you are not in Outland, speaking to the Outland profession trainer.

Changing the dropdown in the journal does not affect what a trainer can give you. You need to go to that expansion’s zone and find a specific profession’s trainer. For Outland, most are in Shattrath and Thrallmar/Honor Hold, though you may find random ones in the towns across the zones.

Nevermind. No that’s not it…I give up…you guys keep going back to how it supposed to work and I know all that. I’m saying it’s not working like that for me…

nevermind…I have to go…

Old Man Barlo (the Outland fishing trainer in Shattrath) will teach you the fishing skill up through Shadowlands. But those fishing skills are not going to have recipes involved.

Read what I said…it’s not just fishing…that was an example…it’s all the professions at all the trainers in outland.

You haven’t given any specifics for us to go on. Saying “all of them” each time we ask about specifics isn’t helping narrow down the disconnect.

What specific trainer are you going to to look for what specific recipe? Am example of one or two you are having troubles with can help narrow down the problem and misunderstanding.
