Profession Knowledge acquisition should change where it takes a player 6 to 8 weeks for an average player to acquire enough Profession Knowledge to have enough points to unlock everything not 6+ months. It turns players away from getting into crafting because it takes so long to completely fill out their spec trees.
I’m at cap or almost at cap with all professions for TWW by the way.
You don’t need to completely fill out spec trees. You can craft every piece of gear in one specialization within your time limit because of concentration. True you can’t craft everything in the game, but that is the intent of the system, so that no one person can do everything, at least at the beginning, so many people can profit.
If you are “capped with everything” as you say, after only one tier, now you have nothing more to do to improve your crafting. Maybe blizzard would prefer if you were occupied with their game for a longer period of time. I would personally rather be occupied for a longer period of time. I thought the time to cap was fine.
I wish that people would say “this is my subjective opinion” rather than trying to invoke some mysterious “many people” and “everyone”. If you didn’t like it, just say “I don’t like it”. And that’s fine.
The truth is that TWW has seen an increase, not a decrease, in the number of crafters. You can see this anecdotally by observing how many people respond to craft requests and you can see it statistically by observing how many more people are accruing crafting achievements. For example 34% of the player base has achieved “working underground”. At the end of Dragonflight (i.e. end of S4), there were only 26.8% of players with “working with wyrms”. Compare this to Legion (the all time low) which had 26.2% that got “working the isles”. This comes from dataforazeroth, which lags a month or so it is likely that the current TWW % is already higher than this.
But congratulations on capping your professions.

I still believe it’s bad the way it is currently because it takes 6+ months to cap and there is no effective catchup mechanic for crafting professions.
It leaves a sour taste in the mouths of players returning or wanting to do crafting mid expansion as essentially you have to tell them do it next expansion as there is no catch up.
There is a catch-up mechanic. It causes you to learn at 2x speed.
A re-mix toon that I started leveling achy with in winter veil has totally filled all the wheels in less than 3.5 months and never got out of catchups, got to the 2 flickers a day stage at best before the wheels were all filled. At this point in the exp, tis very much a moot point to complain about speed of acquisition for KPs.
At least make them more balance across the profession. I did all the profession weekly, most have my trees are capped right now except Jewelcrafting, Leatherworking and Blacksmith. I still need 185 points of my Blacksmith, that between 12 and 9 weeks if I get the usual 15-20 points a week. And most of the crafting order for Blacksmith cost way more than any other profession.
You get 21 catch-up + 16 normal + 1 treatise per week for blacksmithing, or 38 KP per week until you are closer. Also now that sanctified alloy is only 200g per, the costs are not that bad. The worst bs patron order I’ve seen costs significantly less than the worst JC order I’ve seen. And there are plenty of cheap bs orders. And there are even orders where I’m making gold on bs, thanks to resourcefulness. I was actually makingmore gold on bs patron orders when sanctified alloy was higher.
I will need more explanation because I get 1 point from Treatise, 2 from the Crafting Order weekly, and 2 from 2 items from treasure. Now from the Order, the max I ever get is 3 + 2 and 3 + 1, for a total of 9 in the same day. 2 rarely come back during the week, one sometime show up daily, but if I ever get 15 from that, I would be surprise. So that 20 a week, far from the 38 you claim.
Even with all that, my weakaura tell me I have only 50 points in catchup, far from the 185 I still need to complet the tree. Absurb when most of the other trees have been filled for other profession
Catch ups mechanics
Please read this excellent post by Teishoku explaining how to maximise the KP gains when you are in the catch up zone. Its valid for all professions.
If you are greater than 4 weeks behind then you receive 3 flickers (1 kp) every day. These patron orders last only one day so when you don’t log in daily you miss them. 3 flickers per day x 7 days per week is 21 kp. These are catch-up points and will not be awarded if you are caught up.
Blacksmithing has 3 glimmers given every four days. (The four day schedule is designed to match your concentration refill time). Each glimmer is 2kp. Typically you have two of these per week, but one week a month you will only have 1 because of the four day cycle. That’s 3 x 2 x 2 = 12 KP. You also have two treasures from dirt piles which give a total of 2 KP. You have a crafting order quest that gives 2 KP. That totals 12 + 2 + 2 = 16 KP. These are your weekly knowledge sources.
Then you have 1 treatise, which gives 1 KP
And that adds up to 38 KP/week.
To obtain this information I tracked 16 crafters over 4 weeks, including 2 blacksmiths. I tracked every order I got every day for a month. Yes, this is how it works.
Note that no one (who is not exploiting) can possibly be finished with BS. So you are 50 points from the maximum possible (non exploited) KP from these weekly sources. Which, yes, is not all the points. Because that is not possible yet. Anyone who says they have completed the BS tree is tacitly admitting to exploiting. Also note: if you’re at 50 you are in the 2 flicker per day range.
