I’ll be 100% honest - if I’m ever banned - for swearing (not directly at someone) but just swearing in general - in a game that is rated appropriately for inclusivity of LANGUAGE - I’ll flat out quit after 15+ years of supporting Blizzard, and just move on.
I’ve had about enough of the softness.
I’ll agree - there is a “toxicity” problem – but using adult language (not directed at any one in particular) is NOT the problem.
I will not be silent when I see hypocrisy. That is all.
That long post about “grooming” was left up. Last time looked.
This really isn’t about you. Its about the intentionally vague “social contract” and uneven enforcement. I get you don’t like me bring up you as a example. I get it. But it is one that I posted about before. I am sure it will not be the last.
Or until Blizzard shows that they try to at least give some appearance of good faith.
Something I don’t get is the cuss ruling to begin with. As long as people aren’t cussing at each other in a way that is harassing or discriminatory I don’t see why it’s such a problem. _o.o_/
So if that’s who blizzard wants to cater to - they can say goodbye to the majority of us that have supported them for so long. We are literally not the problem.
“Aw poop we died!”
“Well dangnabit, we’ll get it next time!”
It’s not a matter of whether the context is less negative or not. Profanity is profanity. It’s like trying to make pronz less pronz.
I use profanity all the time but I’ve had to slowly change because of the games I’ve been playing. Reality is we play with kids and profanity isn’t something we should be just throwing out there around them. Subjectivity aside, that’s just how things are now.
Perhaps I was just raised differently because I was raised around cussing and slipped up a lot because of it. I found that it was a good way to get stress out was to cuss – of course not directed towards other people.
Intolerance for that is starting to creep as well. It’s rare I see a curse word in FF14. Then again I don’t think kids play that game.
I won’t deny Apex, League, and all the other “pro” games are full of teenagers who have terrible potty mouths. Devs can’t really control communication in a game not built around the social experience.
If Blizzard wants to go FF14 levels of control, I mean it kind of scares me, but those folks are actually friendly over there.
That’s completely fair. I adopted it at a young age myself but have been slowly getting rid of it. Being around nieces and nephews all the time has really changed my perspective.
For me, profanity is just inherently angry. I’ve emotionally changed from cutting most of it out of my vocabulary.
