Obviously this would be my first chance to observe an issue - when I got to the Faire, from the overlook near the entrance portal, I could see a band of the skybox, over the ocean, flickering badly and showing one corner of our cubical world. When doing fishing, the water in general has a faint flicker, not so much the sky.
This is ONLY happening at the Faire. I’ve not seen it anywhere in Khaz Algar, Dragon Isles, Broken Isles Dalaran, Northrend Dalaran, or Boralus. I asked friends if they’ve seen it but apparently none of them have gone to the Faire this time.
With a bit of effort, because the flicker rate was so rapid, I managed to get a screenshot of the effect. I will share it on request, as I can’t include a link to it. My only mitigation for the flicker was dropping my graphics quality to 5 or 4.
** Edited to add: ** [forehead thwap] I forgot to note one important thing: When I alt-Z to remove the UI, as for a screenshot, the error disappears entirely. I use the basic UI, with the only mods that might affect it being ReputationBars, a bag modifier, and widgets for coordinates and TomCat’s Tours notice box.
No, I don’t like those, so no overlays. Just the few widgets.
For what it’s worth, one of the stream team I’m in says his screen gets glitchy every time he goes to the Faire, but he didn’t want to post here himself. [shrug?]
This issue is caused when 3d UI elements are being displayed, e.g. having the character menu open or having unit frames with 3d portraits. That is why hiding the UI for a screenshot stops the error. Other ways of resolving the issue are setting liquid detail to either fair or low, or disabling certain graphic compatability settings like async resource creation or multithreaded rendering.
